I bought EMC9 a couple of  months ago and really started to use it in earnest yesterday, got past a lot of the blips and odd hangs. However when ever I try to generate a slideshow (when rendering into the final file) it hangs on the creation. I've tried rebooting many times, the other applications appear to work fine - but this one stubbornly refuses to render the file. I find this somewhat ironic as this seems to be the simpler of all the things EMC9 says it can do!

Any ideas? My workaround is to take all my slideshow work and rework and render it in Microsoft Photo Story 3 into WMV and then include that movie in "MyDVD" and that at least appears to work. Additionally I was going to open up a support ticket, but I am reading it right that I have to pay $35 for an incident?

Any help here would be great,

PC: Gateway 4200+AMD Dual core, 2Gb memory, 70Gb free drive space, NVIDIA Gateway drivers. All latest patches and if it matters running official IE7.

When you say it "hangs on creation", what exactly do you mean? Does it give you errors? What is showing on the screen? What does the progress bar show? What does the render preview windoe show? Is this in MyDVD or VideoWave?

It hangs on both VideoWave & SlideShow assistant.

From the "Save & Share" screen the parameters are:
Purpose: DVD Playback/NTSC
Quality: MPEG-2 for DVD, smallest file siz

Then on the Render page I see a black Preview pane, and the progress information isL
FileName: SlideShow0.mpg
Duration: 0hr, 0 min, 18 sec, 27 frames
Completed: 0hr, 0min 0sec 0 frames - 0%
Available space on C:\ 67.65Gb

No progress on the rendering bar. Canel button is enabled, but after clicking it it remains depressed and the whole application is hung. One CPU is maxed out running "RoxWizardLauncher9.exe".

Thanks for the feedback - hopefully this will help with the diagnosis,

Gareth

The 0% (no) progress indicator usually can be resolved by uninstalling your video card/adapter drivers then re-install the latest one (same ones if already have the current version). After the uninstall/re-install, the next time you open up MyDVD or VideoWave it will display a message and go thru a video card diagnosis. Your file should then output ok.

Larry,

For completeness for others I'll write what I did - but yes it worked - Many thanks!

1) Downloaded latest 'supported' drivers from Gateway
2) Attempted to install them on top of the current set - no go
3) Uninstall video driver via Computer Management/Devices
4) Reboot
5) Install Gateway drivers
6) Start "Slideshow Assistant" (probably a mistake as I should have started MyDVD or VideoWave), no dialog showing video diagnosis and failed in the same way.
7) Download latest NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA site
8) Install on top of current drivers
9) Reboot
10) Run Videowave, and the video card diagnosis displayed.
11) Run "SlideShow Assistant", create simple show - Success  :)

I'm now running the one that take about 1 hour to generate!

Many thanks again,

Gareth
