Are both BD-R and BR-RE burners the same as far as authoring BluRay for consumer playback goes?  Can I author a BluRay project on to a BD-RE with my BD-R burner?

Should essentially be the same, but some players might work better with BD-R than BD-RE.  That said, in these days of experimentation, it can be cheaper to burn 100 times on a $48 BD-RE than once on a $20 BD-R.
