I have spent the better part of three days since I purchased Easy Media Creator 9 to try to burn my digital photos and music presentation to a CD.  I encounter the error 800040005 at the very end of the process.  I tried to resolve some of the issues by reading the forum posts...took off IE7...disabled virus protection...tried to update cd driver (ati2dvag.dll), but received a message from ATI tech support that they don't provide that information.  Go figure.

Called Roxio tech support and did everything they suggested, including defragmenting my hard drive, etc.  I tried to get a human being to talk to me again either in tech support or customer service but was put on hold forever.

This is a very special project that chronicles the life of 12 friends over the course of a year.  I'm very upset that I've spent this money and created a great slideshow, but can't show it to anyone because of an error that doesn't have a "fix".

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 notebook computer...purchased in June of this year.  It has a DVD reader/CDRW.  I don't know what other information you need, but I'm desperate to get this software to work.

Thanks to anyone that can help!

Some have found updating their video driver fixes this but it doesn't seem to work for everyone.  Are you burning direct to disc?  If so, maybe you can try burning to an image file and see if that's successful.

I'm not sure what you mean by burning to an image instead of a disc. Can you tell me exactly what that entails?

I have saved my program, output as video file and then tried to burn to disk.  It goes through the entire process, all the way to the end and then finishes and gives me an error message.  It burns several folders of files on the CD--just not the final version that I can play.

Thanks,
Lisa

In MyDVD, in the burn options, uncheck burn to DVD.  Oh oh, you say you are burning to CD?  I don't know if the options are the same, but if you can swing it, get a DVD burner.  They are inexpensive and the quality of your production will be much better than a VCD or SVCD.

Instead of burning to disc, uncheck that box and put a check in the box for 'save image file'.  This is known as an ISO file and then you can choose to save it anywhere on your hard drive.  When the burning is completed, browse to where you saved the ISO file and open it with Disc Copier.  Of course, you may also get the same error message again.  I hope not but it's worth a try.

Hey!  Something finally made some progress :)  Burning the file to an image worked without an error, however, it would only work if I said it was eventually going to be a DVD file.  Since I don't have a DVD burner, only a CDRW, I guess I'll have to purchase an external DVD drive in order to finish this project.  And hopefully, that won't have an error when it burns to the DVD!

Many thanks for all of your replies and help.  I'll keep you posted!

All you should have to do is fire up Disc Copier and point it to the completed ISO file and burn to disc.  If that doesn't work (I've never burned an ISO to cd) use Creator Classic to burn the file choosing the 'Burn from Disc Image File' option.

I don't think you can create an iso file when burning to a CD, you create c2d file. At least that is the only option in EMC 7.5  I may be wrong though since I have never tried to create a VCD in EMC 8 or EMC 9

I didn't know that and will check into this post haste.
Thanks for the info

I did just try this---created a vcd in MyDVD 9 and when I select burn, as you can see, the option to burn to an and image (c2d) is grayed out. Tried the same thing with an SVCD and ran into the same thing.  Personally, I'd never use this option anyway but some without DVD burners may want to. Never tried this before.
See, even at my age I'm still learning.
