Using Memorex Double Layer, DVD+ disks on my TSST/MadDog Mega Stor - Triple format internal drive (Model MD-18XTFI)

When a burn a 2 hour movie using whole disk (8.5GB) the movie either stutters or stops completely just after the 1 hour point on my year old Panasonic DVD player. It plays fine on the DVD burner/player in my computer.

My assumption is there is a problem in writing that second layer (that is, if it burns the entire first layer before going to the second). I have considered changing the burn speed to a slower speed, but that does not appear to be an option.

When I burn the same movie and use only half the disk (4.7GB - which I am guessing means only the first layer) it runs fine - even into and past the first hour.

Suggestions?

Thanks
Stephen

Well, the one burned on half the disk played well - until it got to1 hour and 25 minutes -it began to stutter and then skipped to the end and quit. Well, so much for my idea of a second layer problem. Now where am I If I want ot burn anything past 1 hour?

If it works fine on your computer then the Roxio software has done its job.

Try a different brand of media. I also assume that your Panasonic player supports DVD + media.

'Twould seem my super-duper Panasonic is the culprit. It will read DVD-R, but the docs do not say whether or it will not read DVD+R (It for sure will not read DVD-RW or DVD+RW). Therefore, my guess is the problem lies in the DVD player.

Thanks for sending me there to check things.... DUH! When all else fails, RTFM!

Stephen :)

Strangely enough - it's the cheap and cheerful DVD players (usually made by A.Non of Taiwan) that have the most success in playing home-brew DVDs

DVD-R or DVD+R ...... Question .... How does a setop DVD player know the difference if you put the same files on them ? I don't undertand, I've used both types with the same video and my DVD players work fine with either one. Are they made from different material or what, if so, what difference would that make. In my mind the player is reading the files on the disc no matter what the media type. Am I missing something here? Maybe someone would be so kind as to explain please. Thanks!
