I just upgraded to version 9. I have created a number of projects in MyDVD 8. They open OK in version 9 but if I click save in version 9 that is the end of them. The next time I try to open them I get "Open Project operation failed." "XML Load failure". I have done this with two projects already and now I am reluctant to proceed using my new software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I created a DVD, burned the DVD, then closed the program down. discovered the DVD didnt play as I thought on my home theater system so I started back R9 and loaded the previous DVD project. I received the following message "Open Project operation failed" "XML load failure.

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Aside from the date, I'm going to assume that the projects were made in an earlier version of the software and then opened in a later version. If that is true, then I'm sorry, the versions are not compatible - even going from EMC 9 to EMC 10 (and vice versa) let alone from EMC 8 to EMC 9 or EMC 10.
If the project doesn't open in the older version (yes, you can have both (EMC 8 and EMC 9 or EMC 10) on your computer if you are running XP). Then you may want to try your back-up of the project (you did that didn't you) or even a system restore to get that project back.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
