1.  I've twice now compiled a movie using MyDVD as part of EMC9 and the program stops at 99% of encoding the movie.  This is inconsistent and only happens in about 30% of the videos I have tried to create.  There doesn't seem to be any commonality between the failed projects.  The only solution I have found is the start over completely from scratch - and even then it doesn't work all the time.  I did produce two in a row that worked, but I find that percentage completely unacceptable.

2.  EMC 8 had the ability to apply a single audio channel to both channels, how is feature handled in the new version?  I find it strange that the feature would be dropped.

3.  How come I cannot enter a support ticket?  Whenever I click on the link I get an error on http://selfserve.roxio.com/ "Problem loading page".

Sorry I could not remove the color highlight

To apply one audio channel to both channels, choose "Right on both" or "Left on both" for channel control in the Input section of the Clip Properties dialog box. This is done in Sound Editor.

To change the channels of a stereo signal:
  • In the Project View area, right-click the audio clip for which you want to change the channels, and choose Clip Properties.
  • In the Clip Properties dialog box, click Channel control, and choose an option. The options allow you to determine how the left and right stereo channels are played back.

I have the same problem with it hanging at 99% encoding.  It doesn't matter if I'm goign to ISO or direct to disk.  I tend to see it more when I have multiple scenes on the DVD.  Sometimes it will be the first clip, then the second.  If I change the input video by changing the length a little, sometimes it works,  but I have video right now that I can't create because it hangs at 99% on the second clip.

I have found a possible work-around for this problem.  It solved one instance of my problem.  I used the 'Trim' function to set the end time of the clip I was using.  Before, I had just split and deleted sections off the timeline.  Using the Trim feature to set the end time seemed to help.

I am having the same problem with MyDVD 9.   I have yet to create a single project.  The encoding sometimes will not start at all especially when trying to encode a slideshow.  I find that the online support / documentation does not address the common errors that the community struggles with.   I have a new Dell Dimension E521 that  is up to date with drivers etc...I have found with multiple clips that the first may encode but the second will hang as well..have you been able to find any "trick" that helps ?

mikeben, can you let us have some specs (similar to my sig) especially graphics and also let us know if you updated graphics from Dell or the card makers?

The 'trick' that works for me is to use the 'Trim' function on each clip to set the end time of the clip and make sure it is not at the absolute end of the clip. Before, I had just split and deleted sections off the timeline. Using the Trim feature to set the end time seemed to help.

Thanks For Responding..I hope I have included enough info..I have been reading many of the user community comments with regards to release 9 and am not very hopeful.  It seems that this software is a dud and Im stuck..I am working with Roxio technical support but they have not offered any solutions that have worked for me.   Both the VideoWave and MyDVD hang when encoding slideshows...the program is stuck in an infinite loop (CPU usage is 50%) but the status bar shows 0% overall, and current task compete.    The issue seems to be with the encoding...Thanks for any help you can provide..I have yet to create a single DVD with this product..so frustrating...

I don't know if this helps (from another thread after searching for 7300LE)

"...I just found out how to solve my encoding and burning problem with creator 9 dvd project. My video card is nvidia Gforce 7300le. I am running on a dell xps 410. Dell originally had me download nvidia pure video decoder version 1.02 as I was unable to view tv with window media center when I installed roxio 9. I thought this updated my video card driver . I today download Nvidia ForceWare release 90 and I am now able to encode and burn my dvd project. Hope this helps...."

I'm now suffering from the same problem reported in this thread.

I had successfully worked around a couple of issues (thanks to the discussion forums) like my movies stopping on QuickTime files by burning to MPEG2 then burning to disc. Then I had to make some additional changes and now I hang consistently on "movie 5" at 99% from MyDVD. Then I discovered I can’t burn that “movie 5” at all any longer.

So, I know which movie of the 5 is the offender – it just won’t burn any longer. I can't burn from VideoWave 9 movie to MPEG, nor can I burn to a folder set.  I've tried trimming the end frames as suggested. It’s a 23:11:08 long movie with 293 frames. It is mostly photos, with Qtime video, AVI, Music, overlays, many custom trim times, many custom pan and zooms. Applying a trim to every frame would defeat a lot of my work.

If anyone else has suggestions I'd love to hear them. I have many days invested into this project. Perhaps I should have listened to the negative reviews of EMC9 on Amazon.com more closely.

I like this product but sure am struggling with stability - apparently like many others.

Lee

If 4 out of 5 encode and 5 won't, there's a problem with the file - if the s/w was faulty, then none would encode

These were 5 different movies all put onto one DVD. They're all very similar in make up - mix of files, etc.

The movie that wont burn authored just fine and previews just fine in VideoWave. Everything looks great until you go to burn and it hangs. There is no one file involved to point a finger at.

OK - can you work on the other four? That's the criterion. If they work fine and there is one that won't, I'd suspect the one that doesn't to have something wrong with it.

What would be wrong I can't say but it has been known to happen that there can be a glitch in a file that stops it transcoding

I've isolated my hanging problem more.

I created an MPEG2 file with the VideoWave authoring tool. It previews fine in VideoWave and the MPEG file plays in Windows Media Player. When I use MyDVD to attempt to burn this file to DVD or a file it hangs at 99%. Consistently. Everytime.  (I was writing to MPEG2 to resolve problems with quicktime files not playing if I simply added the VideoWave project to DVD Maker directly).

If I take the same VideoWave project and save it to Windows Media 8 as an interim step it burns with MyDVD just fine. There's a long list of supported file formats to output to in VideoWave. The Windows Media ones seem to be geared for lower bandwidth and hence poorer quality.

If I can't get MPEG to work, can you suggest my next best option?

Any thoughts on what's happening at 99% that would help me try to get my MPEG file to work? My other 4 MPEGS that I authored in the same manner work fine.

Lastly, I tried turning off hardware rendering thinking that might eliminate the flashing I'm getting on an assortment of transitions (not all 3d ones but some). I was dissapointed to see I lost the Potluck and Random options from the transistion themes.

Anyway tips on how to do random effects without hardware rendering?

Lee
