After much hassle and taking 40 trys to finally burn a disc from Mac files, Now I have a disc that does not play on my Samsung player.  I know it plays BD-RE because I have one that someone else burned and it plays on the Samsung.  So far I am very disappointed with DVDit Pro HD.  Any suggestions anyone?

I am sorry for your Mac to PC issues.  There can clearly be incompatabilities across the platforms and it sounds like you have been stung by that.

As to playback, this is the only application of its kind that burns BDMV discs onto BD-R.  The unmodified Samsung player (firmware version 1.0) will play this kind of disc.  Versions 1.1 and 1.2 of their firmware broke the capacity to play BDMV on BD-R.  The disc you have must be BDAV which is HD video on a disc with a limited bitrate and with no menus or navigation.  The most compatible player right now is the Panasonic.  I also hear that the Pioneer will play BDMV on BD-R and that Power DVD that came with the Sony Burners, updated with the BD update, will play BD-R discs with BDMV content on them.

So where does that leave me?  I need to make discs that play.  If I use a menu does that make the disc different?  If I use a disc that is not rewriteable, does that make a difference?

The samsung player play only BDAV format actually with firmware 1.1 and 1.2. DVDit Pro makes BDMV format and it does not play with the samsung except you have firmware 1.0. BDAV is video only without menus. You can make BDAV discs using Ulead movie factory 5 plus or Cybelink PowerProducer 4.

it's a tough situation currently.  not unlike the early days of DVD-R.  It will work it's way out, but for now, there are incompatabilities.  You can go the BDAV route (and Roxio Creator 9 will allow that too), but be aware that beyond the lack menus, you will also have a maximum bit rate I believe of 15mbs as opposed to DVDit Pro HD's 40mbs.  For 1080i and 1080p, that extra bit rate allowance is important

The samsung site only shows firmware ver. 1.0 which I ran and installed on my unit.  The whole purpose of buying this thing was to play recorded disc, which it says it does, BD-R and BD-RE.  Is there something else I can do to get this to work?

what samsung shipped with was 1.0.  any firmware updates done to the machines breaks BDMV playback from BD-R.  Highly, highly likely they will add this compatability back in in the future as it is legal by an amendment earlier this year.   Certainly you and other Samsung owners can contact Samsung and tell them your feelings on the subject.

Anyone had any word on them playing in Playstation 3? Not available here in Australia yet.

has anyone tried putting AACS on a disc and trying in the Samsung player?

apparently that's what this player looks for with the latest firmware and apparently DVDit Pro HD can do AACS

You can't write AACS on a BD-R/RW. Its for replication only...

ya, the AACS is for CMF output only, not for when you burn BDMV to BD-R.

Samsung is aware of the issue.  I believe they will fix the issue in a future update, but in the meantime, apparently they have granted some professional authoring facilities "authoring firmware" that reenables the compatability.  For that you would have to contact Samsung directly.  I have no suggestions for who you would contact or for what it would take to convince Samsung that you are a Blu-ray author.
