[I've tried to make a photo DVD using 3 different disk manufactures.  Two of them requested a new recordable  disk, even tho the disks inserted were new.  The 3rd brand sent the error E80070057 wrong parameter.  I deleted the Roxio program and re-installed it.  Could not get computer to turn on.  Had to do a system reestore to get it to turn on which put the orriginal program back in.  What good is the program if it doesn't work.  In looking a othe posts, it looks like many simalar problems are not being solved.  Ken

You may have a drive problem here - can you let us have the drive id (make, etc)

Also - have you tried cleaning the lens? Sometimes you will get that error of the laser isn't reflecting back correctly

I'm using the dvd port that came with my Gateway Computer.  Make and ID unknown.  I don't know how to clean the lens.  Any sugestions.  I might add the burner was working fine when last used a few weeks ago.  Thanks.  Ken S

Your DVD port do you mean USB port? What was added or updated to the computer in the last few weeks? Something seems to have broke the DVD and the software talking to each other in the last few weeks. Any ideas?

Yes USB port.  I'm always entering new programs but none during that time that I can think of.  What can I do to correct the problem and  how do I clean the lens for that port?  Thanks,  Ken

Ken-s,

gi7omy, was referring to the laser in the DVD drive not a USB port lens, that doesn't exist!
I'm not of the belief that optical drives get so dirty and need this cleaning! Especially when they worked fine two weeks ago. Something has caused the software or the drive a problem. Have you updated your xp os, windows update in the last two weeks?

You've obviously never had to service a drive where everyone in the house smokes :)

But seriously - any ingress - dust from over-energetic housecleaning to dead bugs is common5cfd_2.JPG

I can't think of anything being done in the way of new programs or updateing other than those done automaticly and have been being done for months.  So what should I do, trash Roxio and get a different DVD program? Ken

Automatic updates?

Internet Explorer 7?

That is known to trash Versions 7 & 8, and would expect no less from 6.

If you have that "critical update" of I.E. 7 - either rollback to I.E. 6, or plan on replacing a lot of your software.

Lynn
