I've got Toast Titanium 6.0 installed and running on my Mac OS X 10.2.8 iMac (2001-era slot-loading) and it seems to work OK with both the internal Mashita CD-RW drive and a Memorex Firewire external DVD-RW drive.

So I downloaded the Updater from the Roxio website to update Toast from 6.0 to 6.1.1. The updater is a 23.7 MB disc image file with .dmg file extension (after the download is unstuffed).

But there's no way on Allah's green earth that I can get that infidel updater disc image to mount. Whether I double-click it, drag it onto Disc Copy, use the Mount Image command in Toast, or even burn the image to a CD and then try to mount the CD, the result is always the same: there is a flurry of disc activity with onscreen messages and indicators showing normal progress, then just at the moment the disc image should mount on the desktop everything gets hung and the spinning beach-ball of death appears.

The Opt-Cmd-Escape command for bringing up a window of running applications with the ability to force-quit any of them is disabled, so all I can do is a hard reboot of the entire computer. I haven't been having problems with any other .dmg disc images mounting -- only this Toast 6.1.1 Updater is cursed, it seems.

Does anyone know what's happening here? And how I can fix it?

Any input is much appreciated, even if just in the form of lewd seasonal limericks.
