I am using EMC 9 and it works well except:

1. In both MyDVD and Music Disk Creator, it burns the disk to 98% and stops. This always happens in MyDVD and usually in Music Disk Creator. The burner light stays on and I can't quit the program. Clicking Cancel does not work - it just continues to say "canceling" forever. I have to hard-boot even to eject the disk. (I had exactly the same problem in EMC 8 but was hoping the new version would fix this.)

2. The above does not happen if instead of burning directly to disk, I only burn to an Image file and then copy the image to disk using Disk Copier. This has yielded correct results so far in MyDVD with .iso files. HOWEVER -

3. In Music Disk Creator, no matter what I do (burn directly to disk or burn a .C2D image file first and copy it to disk), I get a strange symptom at the end of the disk when I play it back. For about the last 30 seconds of the last track on the CD, I get either silence or a loud buzz. On playback on my PC, it is continuing to play - the music player software shows not only that the track is counting out to the end, but the "visualizer" shows that there is music playing! - but there is silence or the buzz.
  • This does not depend on the player - I have tried the disks on my PC, two home stereos, and the car stereo, and in all cases it plays fine up to the end of the last track.
  • It is not a problem with the blank disks - I have gotten the same results on numerous ones.
  • It is not a problem with the original track or putting too much on a disk - I have tried deleting the last track or replacing it with something else, and I get the same results. The tracks themselves (usually .wav files) play fine on my PC before burning. Whatever is the last track, this is what happens to it.
  • It is not a problem with the hardware, or at least I don't see how it can be. Everything works fine in other programs, and all my drivers and firmware are up to date.

My system:
  • Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
  • Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
  • Asus PVP800-VM motherboard, Intel® 82865G Graphics Controller, Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit audio
  • 1.5 GB RAM
  • Running McAfee Virusscan, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D (all recently run and updated)
  • 90+ GB free on main data disk; 10 GB free on separate partition for Temp files; both defragmented
  • CompUSA/AOpen DVD+/-R DL drive, Dynex and other CD-R's, Fuji and other DVD+R DL DVD's

Any ideas?

I have the same problem only I haven't tried saving to an Image file. I was told this morning, after numerous calls to tech support that they have had problems before with AOpen dvd burner...that they were not able to fix.

A quick check on Google shows that the AOpen 1616 drive seems to be having a lot of problems in failing to operate properly. Did you check the AOpen website for firmware updates for the model you have?
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
