Lg Gsa 4167b And Roxio 8 [help]

I did my first burn with LG GSA 4167B with Roxio 8 on to a 16x DVD+R (Memorex) disc producing a data disc containing some avi files (from my digicam). But they read ok on my LG GSA 4167B but not on my other computers combi drive (dvd rom reader only) or my dvd player (which can read avi files - although not play them well). I have updated the firmware to DL12 before I did the burn.
(I have a 800MHz AMD duron and a Elitegroup mainboard k7VZA).
All I wanted was a simple data DVD+R disc that can be read in other computers not necessarily the dvd home player.
Does anyone know what i might have done wrong? is the 16x disc too new for the combi drive?
Thanks in advance.

If you are able, are you able to select a slower speed. Otherwise you may have to try different media. I have read on other boards that memorex is not the best media on the market and many have problems w/ it

1 Sony DRU-800a (internal) on my desktop, and
2 External Sony DRX-510
Data disks burned on the 800a are readable on both dvds BUT are NOT readable on the internal combo drive on my Inspiron 8600. This drive is a: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4243n. I havve flashed the bios for the dell combo drive and they are confused as to why the disks are unreadable.
I should note that dvd's burned with earlier versions, i.e., 7 or 7.5 were readable. However, I have had the combodrive replaced so that I cannot duplicate the problem!!!!!

Is that CPU fast enough to write at 16X? How old is the other DVD ROM? It may not be able to read 16X media. Samething for the DVD Player.

likely that old drives won't read the dvd+r format....hence the minus sign in dvd-rom right?
Apparently dvd-r is approved by the dvd forum and that dvd+r is not even though it is supported by many companies. I think since the combi drive is old and that dvd-r came out before dvd+r thats why the combi drive cant read the disc. Also i tried a dvd-r in the combi drive burnt by a friend which read ok.
Netlaw1 i think u may have had the same problem since yr combo drive may have been old therefore not able to read the disc. Also u sure you were closing the disc via advanced options?
i burnt at 4x since i dont think my comp could hack the 16x burn since i dont think i can achieve a 21mb/sec transfer rate.
Yeah people are saying that memorex is not good for the LG GSA 4167B.
What media do you guys use?
Jmcoleman what is ultra speed?
As for the dvd player not sure why it didnt work. Dvd booklet says disc
should be iso 9660 and video format. Normally if it cant play it it still can 'see' whats on the disc.

A Note About CD-RW Speeds
While you can use a 48x CD-R in a 32x CD burner, CD-RW speeds are a bit more complex. CD-RW offers three speed groupings:
* CD-RW 1-4x
* CD-RW High-Speed 4-10X
* CD-RW Ultra-Speed 10-24X
If you have a 4x CD-RW burner, you cannot use the CD-RW Ultra-Speed discs and simply burn at a lower speed. To use an Ultra-Speed disc, you must have a CD-RW burner with the Ultra-Speed logo, compatible with the discs. Similarly, to use a CD-RW High-Speed, your drive must be certified with either the High-Speed logo or the Ultra-Speed logo. If you have an older drive, your best bet is always the 1-4x discs, which are compatible with all CD-RW drives.
---------------------------------------------
Like your DVD ROM, some DVD players do not play DVD+R and some do not play DVD-R. Check your DVD Burner to see if it supports 'bit setting'. What that does is change something on the burned disc to make a DVD Player think the disc is a DVD ROM. This makes the disc more compatible with older drives. Depending on the brand of burner, bit setting can be in the firmware which means you only change it once or you have to run a tiny app to change it on each disc. If you have EMC8, run DiscInfo Pro. There is an option there for bit setting if your dirve supports it.

First you need a DVD identifier for the media code. Dvd Identifier or DVD infopro. The Fuji's latley have been Prodisc not grade 1 media! Read here media grades but always check media codes because companys change who make the disc's.

BB had Verbatim 16x - + R for 14.99 50 pack. The -R are Mcc 003RG20 and the +R are Mcc 004 Mitsubisi Chemical Corp. Sams club sell Verbatim 8X -R are Mcc 002RG20 and the +R are Mcc 003 Mitsubisi Chemical Corp. Both produce excelent results for me on Plextor, Nec, and BenQ drives. The 8x I burn at 4x or 6x the 16x I burn at 8x DVD video. Why better burn scans with less Pie, Pif, ond Pof errors. 16X DVD burning would equal 72x cdr burning. I have a Raid aray that will sustain a 63x data feed and can burn at 16x but don't because of higher errors.

grussell, i tried the dvdinfo Pro and the booktype setting but got a message saying update firmware to A104? I thought this option was only avavilable on nero so least i know it exists in roxio 8.
cdanteek, thanks for that link, i will have a read. I guess thats why they do firmware upgrades to help with specific media right? Like DL13 helping optodiscs and sony discs to write better.

Firmware upgrades will help, but bad media will never get better. Grade 1 media and media codes you should check because they might change. Some burners like -R some +R some 4x some 8x and some 12, 16x.Find what your's likes with CDDVD Speed disc quality test and stick with it!

average speed: 6.99 x
current speed: 9.32x
read errors: 0
average data rate: 9333Kbps
so will stick to 4x i think to be safe?
Just analysing the memorex disc using dvdinfo pro (crc analysis) and there were 1110 errors after
2hrs and only 44% complete. I think the disc has had a bad burn/media no good.
cheers
