Are you burning to disc or as an image file? If you're burning to disc, try burning to an image file and see if you get further along.

Janne, I am stuck with the same problem and error. I too have tried all the tips that are mentioned here so hopefully someone can help us get this fiqured out. I updated all my drivers from the manufactures and from DELL. I also downloaded the patch that is for EMC8 and updated DirectX to 9.0c. Does anyone know what Error 80004005 while Encoding means?

Jess :)

Using the patch in EMC9 from what was posted in 8 may cause problems so I don't suggest you do that. I don't know exactly what this code means and Microsofts KB says "The 80004005 error is received by Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) in Active Server Pages, including Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), OLE DB, and the Remote Data Service (RDS)" which makes no sense to me.
Some seem to have this problem only when burning direct to disc and burning to an image file helps but not for everyone.

Thanks for the info Paul. I did try burning it to an image file with out any luck. I did down load the hot patch for EMC8 before I read your message, but it did not help or mess anything up yet. I am going to look in microsoft to see if it helps me pin point where the error is occuring. Any other sufggestions?

I searhed Microsoft for this error and here is a general definition that they list.

The 80004005 error message indicates that your data cannot be accessed. This error can be paraphrased as "I could not access your data for some reason." This section lists the text and cause of the most common error messages. For other related articles that may help to determine the cause of the error, see the "References" section. Although this article attempts to provide as much information as possible, some areas may have been missed.

:) So where do I go from here?????

Jess (jrd),
The problem could be in your video card. The one you have listed does not look to be compatible with DirectX 9. You could check the rendering options (Tools -> Options) and set it to software rather than hardware, then try. That may get it to work. Or you could try updating the video card using the latest drivers on the Nvidia site. If none of that works, at a minimum you're going to need a video card the supports DirectX 9. That may or may not help in your case, as the rest of your system is at the rock bottom minimum specs for the software and is going to struggle to do video work.

Thanks Larry, I was hoping that wasn't the case but I am currently working on a new computer.

I too was having all the problems with at least 3 of the 8000xxx messages and it was very frustrating. I tried burning at the SP quality and it would work. I have now downloaded all of the hotfixes, Direct X and Video card updates possible. I reset the rendering to software instead of hardware and the program appear to be working like a dream. Last night I created a Gb DVD. The system encoded and burnt within 20 minutes at the highest quality. Just to make sure that Roxio is still good, I tride Movie Maker, which could not load any of my camcorder files without some strange message that meant nothing. I guess all programs have problems! I agree Roxio should not keep releasing these programs with bugs and it is frustrating but if you keep at it, you can get it working fine. Maybe I have been lucky with my video card, machine etc. I'll let you know if the program starts playing up again. Try updating everythnig, change the rendering and try again.

Good Luck

Mike
