So your DVD contains pdf files?

What program are you using to "open" the DVD? Please provide detailed steps of what you are trying to do.

That sounds very like a 'copy protection' scheme - you can't open the file if you have burning s/w installed (in case you make a copy)

Sounds very like some games a while back that wouldn't install if you had a virtual drive setup

I just want to open the DVD using the adobe reader (#8). The company supplying the disk said that some part of EMC8 is in conflict; they suggested removing the default pdf viewer from Roxio. When I unistalled the suite,I was able to read the disk fine! I am perplexed. Thanks all!

1) "...default pdf viewer from Roxio.." -- can you elaborate on this
2) if you insert a DVD, what app was set to autoplay if it sees non-video files on the disc?
3) after removing EMC8: if you insert a DVD, what window comes up? Does it ask you what application to use to launch or read the files in the DVD?

I went to the site and it appears that the pdf file is a catalog of "comics".  The "comics" are images in a TIF file format.  The site does allow the reseller to handle the comics since the purchaser (re-seller)  does get a license.

To the OP, EMC V8 does not have a pdf reader.  So if you put the disc in the drive, you should be able to explore the disc and open the pdf file with Adobe Reader.  The rest of the disc should be the comics in TIF format.  Some TIF file formats may not be readable.

Are you using the links in a pdf document to open the TIF images?  Are you the licensed reseller?
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I can't really elaborate on "default pdf viewer"- that's just what I was told. When I put the disc in (without EMC being installed) the disc opens up in adobe reader 8. It goes to a menu page where I can open sub folders of comics from different decades.
