just got media creator 9 after accumulating hours of video footage that needs to be transferred to my hard drive and subsequently edited (i guess) to burn to DVD.
several questions:
what is the best capture format (avi, mpeg, etc) - should it be done from within roxio or elsewhere?
once i have the footage saved to files, what is the best way to edit it down?

My preference is to use Capture and capture as an AVI file.
AVI's are much bigger, but they pass through editing (VideoWave) much faster than mpgs.
Some prefer mpeg capture since render time is greatly reduced when you start with a movie ready file.
Capture one in each format and see what works best for you.
VW is the only editor in the package, so it stands to reason that is what you will use…
There are two way to get to DVD after capture.
Edit in VW and Output As to produce an mpg to bring into MyDVD.
Edit in VW and Save the Project (dmsm). Add Title in MyDVD and bring in the dmsm file as the movie.
The first method involves double render but the 2nd one, in MyDVD, will pass quickly. The second method never alters your original file as dmsm files are merely 'notes' on how you want it to look. – You can use the same source file and alter it 3 different ways saving 3 different dmsm files and use them in MyDVD. Yet your source remains intact to use again.
So the "normal" path to disc is – Capture – VW – MyDVD – burn disc.

In VW, Split the clip at the beginning and end of the unwanted portion.
Then click the unwanted portion to highlight it and delete.
