I am having a problem with Windows Media Player 9 playing MPG files from a web site.  It shows the first frame and you hear the sound.  I can close Windows Media Player and reopen to the same link and it will play ok.  What is happening is that the mpg file must be saved or cached on C drive to play.  Why I am talking about this on Roxio 8 discussion is that I learned uninstalling Roxio 8 it will make it work correctly.  I reinstall Roxio 8 and the problem is back again.  I only notice this happening on MPG files, WMV files work correctly.  This wasn't a problem on Version 7.5.   Does anyone know of a work around for this problem?

Can you provide a link to the website, you can send me a PM with this information if it isn't suitable for posting here.  I want to recreate the problem here as it's much easier to explain to the developers when we can do so.

This problem is reproduceable with WMP 10 also.

Here is a link to a good web site that can be used to test this problem.

After you have been to the site and found it wouldn't play the first time but then it will the next time because it has been cached on you hard drive.  To test again you need to go to your internet options and delete the temporary files.

I can confirm that I had the same with that link.

The text actually suggests that you should download the video (which is best done by right clicking on the link 'hier klicken', save to disk). If you left click WMP opens, connects but no sound or picture, but can't play, until you close, reopen and then it plays the cached file OK.
I have not tested whether this is due to EMC8 being installed or not.

I have not tested whether this is due to EMC8 being installed or not.

I can confirm that it is EMC 8 and that the patch does not fix it. I wiped and re-loaded my computer recently and monitored for this specific problem. Interestingly, if you re-apply XP SP2 after the EMC and update are installed, the problem will go away. If you install EMC 8 or the update without then re-applying SP2, the problem remains. This occurs with any cached mpeg file, even from e-mail.

When you say reapply SP2, what does that do to the ~40 or so post SP2 updates? Do they all have to be reinstalled as well?

Interesting - I'm noticing the same thing. Wondering if it happened only after installing 8.05. I didn't notice this for some time after installing so there may be other possibilities but it may be worth checking out.

Same thing here...never tried before.
I thought after the marriage problem with her politico ex-husband, Ms. Ryan would do something.  Didn't know she sang but I do know she helped the ratings for Star Trek Voyager when she joined.  I was already a mild Trekkie but, she sure got my attention in those space suits (meow)

I tried again but this time booting to Vista and using it's WMP 11.  This was not cached as Vista's sitting on a separate hard drive entirely.  So, it's either WMP 9 & 10 or the fact that I don't have EMC installed in Vista.

I am experiencing this same phenon. with my system, EMC 8.05 Win xp sp2 and wmp 10. Any fixes yet?? Do not have this prob. with EMC 7 or 7.5

I haven't found any fixes yet.  I uninstalled EMC 8 to get rid of the problem.  I tried to install EMC 7.5 and it will not work now but that is another problem for a new thread.  Sure hope that someone finds a fix to the problem as I like EMC 8 better and would like to go back to using it.

Just wanted to share that I also experienced this problem immediately after installing Easy Media Creator 8.0.  I just received the installation disk through a mail order and installed it yesterday.  The build is 805B30B ENU (from Creator Classic 'about').

I also have this issue of having to double click an mpg for it to play correctly.. It is clearly an issue with the Roxio 8 application being installed. My guess that anyone else who's tried this application has the issue. Any update on that possible fix. It's a nuisance.

What problem are you posting about? A bit more information would be helpful perhaps a completely new thread since there have been several issues discussed and they are not all the same

Read the thread, these are all about the SAME issue. When you install EMC 8, windows media player no longer plays .mpg or .mpeg files when you click a web page link. You either have to download the file and play it off of the disk or stop the player and click the link a second time so it will play the file from cache. The files freeze on the last frame, and the audio continues to play normally.

EMC 8 was the first software on the laptop?  What do you consider software, then?  There is no doubt a conflict with other software on your computer.  Suggestion, with the exception of WMP, get rid of all the burning programs, reboot, and install EMC 8.  If it works, one by one, install the other programs.
