Should it take 1.5 hours to create an 8 Gb backup with verify?  Using USB hard disk.  Takes about 9 minutes to copy the file back to the hard drive.  USB 2.0 on Athlon XP.

I assume you are using Backup MyPC. It does a lot more than just copy. For the original backup, it compresses the data then writes to the output file. For the verify, it uncompresses the data then compares it to what is on the original hard drive file by file. I am not surprised it takes that long to do both

The compression does have a good bit of overhead just by the type of processing it is.
