Hi all,

Has anyone experience problems burning a DVD when you import VOB files to your project?

When I preview the project in My DVD, everything works and looks fine,
but once I go to burn it, or make an ISO file, it either hangs or gives me the notorious error 80004005

Any clues of what could be happening?

Thanks,

Luis

That error is usually associated with EMC7 or 8, howver, do NOT attempt the hotfix as described for those without reading the note attached by John about backing up.

Having said that - known culprits can include Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11 and also 'out of date' video drivers and DirectX

Sooo - I'd recommend you start by updating your video drivers from the maker's website (not the Dell ones and certainly not the Microsoft ones) and also DirectX 9.0c (December 2006 version)

If that fails and you have IE7 and/or WMP11 installed - try rolling back to the earlier versions

Let us know what happens - even if it doesn't work and we can try to take it from there
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

If you did it and it works, I wouldn't worry - the notes on the fix by John are clear enough so if you follow those.

In a worst case scenario, do a clean uninstall (see the pinned notes on that), then update drivers and DirectX and re-install
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I couldn't find a way to pass the error using VOB files,
but if I don;t use any it Burns ok, :)
make sure to have all your project files in the same local hard drive,
that seems to work for me.

I did spend time updating the video driver and all that...

I like some features of EMC 9 but I think DVD Encore seems more stable,

thanks gi7omy

And as a follow up on that - always defragment the drive before and after capturing to the hard drive

(Just a word of advice - it makes things work better as the heads don't have to skip all over the drive to access the data)

IFO files are the files that handle the information and the vob files contain the mpeg video files. There's more to it than that but it's the simple version.

So when I import from my disc that I have downloaded my home vid to (I use a sony dvd recorder) there is an IFO and VOB with each vid do I need to import each of these? My project plays fine in the preview but I get the 800004005 error right of the bat when I try to burn or write to iso file. I have directx9c, iexplore7 (which doesn't work so I use firefox) and have updated my cards (Nvidia geforce 6600 and Radeon 7000 dual head) I have a dual core amd 2.5mhz and 1 GB of RAM running XP 64 bit. I think I need to roll back to iexplore 6 but can't find a download. Help I have spent hours and I do have another life with w2 and 1099 to print and a vid project that I just junked nero because after 2 weeks I thought maybe roxio might be better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But niether have much in the way of tech support and I am not stupid! I NEED TO GET THIS DONE!!!!!!!!!

You don't need to do any download to roll back to IE6 - just uninstall 7 from add/remove programs
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Okay I think I know my burn problem. MyDVD won't encode VOB files so need to change them to another format. The VOB files I imported to nero prior to getting roxio encode but are jerky. Can I import my VOB's elsewhere in Creator9 and have then converted then put together my project and burn it in DVD 9? I will explore as I have time while I await an answer. Thanks to all your post as they have helped me figure out some things! Jeanne
