When I try to open My DVD, it immediately asks that I activate a "mpeg-2 codec." Clicking on the "activate" button produces an error message--"Activation failed--no permissions" and My DVD closes.  I am unable to get around this irritating message and use My DVD.  The knowledge base suggests opening the video in Windows Media Player and let WMP search and download the codec.  WMP indicates that I have the appropriate codec and I also downloaded other codecs from the internet and verified that they are, indeed, installed.  So, what is going on here?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled EMC-9 with the same result.  Hope some of you more experienced users can help.  Please reply offline, if you would:  danl@hawaii.edu.

Thanks much... :)

Thanks...I followed the advise on the forum...removed all traces of Roxio from my machine and then rebooted and tried to do a clean install of EMC --now it refuses to accept the product key or the serial number....Is this another example of "not ready for prime time software" that we've come to expect from Microsloppy and its followers...I am ready to give up and seek another product, one that will behave a bit more rationally.  By the way, I have tried to contact Roxio tech support with no luck at all--I don't even get to listen to boring music--just a quiet telephone line...and the live chat is worthless....

If you have any more advice (like how to reinstall the program), I'd be very appreciative....

Thanks

Yes, and it worked...the program is now quite functional.  It took the clean install to resolve the mpeg-2 codec problem....

Thanks to all who replied.

I must agree.  I've tried every method of trying to repair Roxio to get my DVD and Video Wave to work but I get an error about the mpeg2 activation.  After uninstalling I got the problem with the cd key.  Nothing seems to work and I see there is a problem with many other users.  Most of us have a program that half of it doesn't work and as for me the most important part of it isn't what works.  We need some help here.

I don't know if this will be particularly helpful for anyone but I finally got the mpeg codec error problem fixed. After doing two clean installs of ECM9 and still getting the message about the mpeg missing due to bad installation I also re-installed my version of MyDVD8. Once that was done ECM9's DVD components all seem to work just fine. I don't think you should have to have MyDVD to get that function to work in ECM9 but it seems to have done the trick for me.
