Hi all,
I'm having an issue with the VideoWave application when I click "Add Photo/Video" in an existing Production. I watched Task Manager and saw that VCGProxyFileManager shot up to 100% CPU utilization for about 7-10 minutes. When I Google'd this, I found another thread where this was discussed, but there was never any resolution (http://forums.suppor....php/t1125.html).

Like the individual in that thread, I watch as Roxio creates, deletes and re-creates the same file in the ..Application Data\Roxio\VideoUI9\Proxy folder. It does this, as I mentioned for a good 7-10 minutes before it gives up and the CPU utilization goes back to normal, but leaves VideoWave completely hung.

I'm running a 3.4ghz system with 2+gb of memory. Plenty of storage (20+gb free) w/ a Radeon X300 video card w/ 128mb. It is, I will note, a Dell system. I've read in several posts now about "issues" with Dell systems. However, with that said, there is no indication on the box that Dell doesn't meet Roxio's minimum requirements. :)

I've got a WinXP machine with TiVo 2.3a installed along with the latest and greatest DirectX (December) and have the latest video driver (from the card manufacturer). If I can provide the experts anything else, please let me know...

Anything related to video production is very CPU intensive - but did you check to shut down any running modules (and do a spyware check) first?
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

System scans show virus and spyware free (knock on wood! ;)

Agreed, video editing is CPU intensive - and I'm certainly ok with that if the software would produce something! :) Instead, the app seems to write and re-write the proxy file over and over again - and finally just stops altogether. That's when the utilization drops back to normal, but nothing has been accomplished.

The only other related Task Manager file that I see running is RoxMediaDB9.exe (in addition to VideoWave9.exe and VCGProxyFileManager9.exe). After about 10 minutes of chugging on VCGProxyFileManager9.exe, the pc is back to Idle, and nothing else happens. I've left it like that for almost an hour (thinking that maybe something would happen), and returned to the same as when I left it. So at that point I typically end the VideoWave9.exe process.

Thanks!

Shut down RoxWatch via msconfig, and whatever else Roxio is checked in the Startup tab.  That should help some.

Also, if you are going to be doing any video work, 20GB is nowhere near enough storage space.  You should get another hard drive, 120 GB minimum.

Thanks grandpabruce for the tips on gettin' stuff out of MSConfig. I'll check on that next!

As for the drive, I've got an internal SATA 300gb in addition to the main drive which currently has 20gb remaining. :) And then another 200gb external as well. Planning ahead for all those great video productions!

You are welcome.  Those drives will do.  Make sure you keep the temp files cleared from you main drive.  There is still quite a bit of temp files put on the main drive.  You can switch where XP puts the temp files, though.

I've unchecked DMXLauncher, DrgToDisc and RoxWatchTray9. However, same symptoms as before. When I'm in a production and I attempt to do anything (add a new photo/video - or even access the menu bar) the window freezes and VCGProxyFileManager9.exe shoots up to 70-80% CPU utilization. In fact, I'm sitting here now as I type this watch it just clock and clock. Soon, since I tried to add something almost 10 minutes ago, the utilization will drop back to 0, and nothing will happen - the app will still be hung.

To add some more info that might help, the production that I'm working on (in this example) is about 45 minutes in length. It is a compilation of scenes from various TiVo files. I'm not sure if that helps at all, but I figure it might trigger someone out there! :)

Yup. Back to 0 utilization for VCGProxyFileManager9.exe. VideoWave9.exe is at 0 with 96,384k memory and frozen. Every now and then RoxMediaDB9.exe uses 1% utilization but then drops back to 0.

I'll go see if there was any response on the "self-service" board from Roxio... Although from reading the forum, I doubt it.

Hi,

Did you ever figure out the answer to your problem?  I am having the same issue.

I sure did get it resolved - I returned it for a full refund. The product is simply terrible. In fact, I had to reformat the PC to start fresh. You can read all about the ordeal at the following:

[url=http://Gone[/url]

PS - When the guy at the store asked why I was returning it, I explained how all of the support web sites list the fact that the software "doesn't work well on Dell machines." Hmmm... I didn't see listed anywhere on the minimum requirements that you must have a PC other than a Dell. Way to go Roxio; I'll never buy another one of your products again.
