I am writing to you from Belgium where I use Easy Media creator in French.
I do have problems with Video Wave.
I imported AVI files from my dv videocamera and I began editing pictures with the storyline.
After working for 2 weeks a few minutes every day and saving it everytime, I opened the program again to continue editing (just finished 33 minutes) and a xindow poped-up with no message...even when I clicked on details.
I cannot edit anything anymore and I cannot even play the files from the main screen...All the "play", "rewind", and all buttons stay in the color grey and all my work is unusable...

What can I do ? Where is the bug ?

I bought your software especially for editing and I am very disappointed it does not work.  I tried twice editing the same files...and I had to start from zero...

Here is my computer system information:

It sounds like you did something that corrupted your production, and it is doubtful that you will recover it.  I wish I could help more.

Also, FYI, this is a users forum, and it is not OUR software.  We are users just like you.

What video card do you have?  Is it an integrated video chip or a stand alone video card?

I checked that computer and it comes with on-board video chips but should take a PCI card.

Several people have complained about the Dell 051 and 061 computers.  They contact Dell to get some satisfaction.  Google for your computer and you will find several hits talking about the bad graphics on the mother board.  Most of the hits will be about gaming but V9 also stresses your graphics set up just as if you were running a game.

Try this; go to VideoWave's top menu.  Select tools, options and run the graphics test.  Where is the dot after the test completes?  I'm guessing that it is near software; do not change it to hardware.  Try doing your productions again;  you will have lost 3D transitions but if you are doing video, that should not matter.  The only way to get them back is to upgrade your computer.

Check for viruses and malware; defrag your hard drive. Sometimes these will cause problems.

Oh, by the way, Bruce was probably right, you have probably lost your project.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Thank you for your replies...

About "your" software sentenc...it was a copy of the text I sent to the Roxio Support team...

I installed a PCI card from "I-dream" to capture files from my videocamera

The video card is "Video: Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family, Driver" installed by Dell.

What I don't understand is the fact I could work for almost two weeks without any problems, editing, files, transitions and all...and sudddenly, the next day, evrything was corrupted...I tried twice the same project...

Whatever file you added on your last editing, was corrupt.  If you can get the project open again, start deleting portions of your project, from the end, and see if it resolves the problem.

grandpabruce is correct, also did you check for viruses and malware as I suggested?

I think that you installed a video capture card although I can not find it on the web. Was it advertised as a video card and if so, did you install the drivers for it? The only thing I could find remotely related is a hardware device for i-POD

The video card you list is not a card - It is a chipset. You can also see if there are updated drivers for that chipset on the Dell site.  You may have a different site for your area.

What did Roxio say in response to your question?

I'll try deleting scenes tonight to see which one was corrupted...

The PCI card from I-dream is a "idream firewire PCI KIT ID-IEEE1394KIT"...cheap (13 dollars)...no need for drivers and capturing video worked OK with videowave...

There is an update for the family chipset, but when I do it, I have very poor quality on my screen when surfing on the net with 1024X768 resolution and 32bit color screen...So I uninstalled it...and Videowave worked fine...

My question now is: what is my video card specs ? Would videowave work without one...I guess I do have one, but no idea which one...

I will also try to send an e-mail to Dell tech...

I defragmented my computer and seached for viruses and malware, but all is OK

No answer yet from Roxio...

Will keep you up to date...

Thannk you again...

That card is a Firewire one as far as I can see and won't improve the graphics.

You really need to add a graphics card (either nVidia or ATI based) with a minimum of 128 MB memory and prefereably 256 MB

Do you think installing one of these cards will solve the problem ? Will I be able to edit and save my first project  or is it totally destoyed ?

When I edited my project, they both crashed at different part...The first time after 20 minutes editing and the other after 33 minutes...

Is it normal the software worked ok during all that time with no warning ? I do not understand that...

Thanx again for your help...I get none on the French forums...

You have probably lost the original project

To work with video you really need a good graphics system as Videowave uses the graphics card to render

You would need to check inside your computer - that is a PCI-e card (diffeernt from PCI)

If you have a row of white slots, then you need PCI
If there is a brown one set back from the white ones - that is AGP
If it is black - then that is PCI-e

You need a card that will fit in the slot on your board
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

You most be absolutely certain beyond all doubt that you actually have a PCI-e socket on your board or it will not fit

As I said, the slot for that is coloured black and is set back from the row of white (PCI) slots

PCI-e and PCI are NOT the same thing

If you have that black slot to the right of the white ones - go for PCI-e (they're far faster)
