I've been using EyeTV to record to shows and love the ability to edit out commercials from my recordings - is that possible with Toast 8/TivoToGo? I can't seem to find that function...

The Tivo files can't be edited.

Toast doesn't edit any kind of video. There are some formats where you can choose the start and end points of a video but there is no other editing in Toast.

Take a look at MPEG Streamclip. It has the ability to cut segments out of MPEG video and possibly many other kinds of video without re-encoding. Toast can use the files saved by Streamclip.

There's a thread here on exporting to iMovie which has some times on ways to get a full resolution MPEG video file from a TiVo source. That video can then be edited by Streamclip.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Thanks, tsantee.  I will check it out later.

The "edit" I meant is actually like what you said "choose the start and end points".
