I used to use Sonic's MyDvd Studio Deluxe V6's Fit To Disk feature to have the software automatically compress a Media Center dvr-ms file to have a 3.5 hour show fit onto a 4.7GB DVD. I was told the Easy Media Creator V9 product has that same feature lifted from that old product and it works the same way, so I purchased the upgrade.
However, I tried the same thing with EMC V9, and EMC will not let me Fit To Disk a 3.5 hour show onto the same capacity DVD as I used to have working with the MyDvd Studio Deluxe V6. It basically gives up and says the DVD hasn't got enough capacity.
Is there really no way to get the same feature functionality as a replaced, older version product?

I'm having the same problem with EMC V9. It will not let me Fit To Disk a 1.5 hour vid.

Time is your enemy. Usually, 2 hours on a single DVD but I have gotten more using an ISO file and then using Disc Copier to fit to disc.
Have you looked into using DL discs? They are more expensive but have come down in price a bit and should take care of your problem.
I haven't worked with dvr-ms files so I can't say but as for Mechman, you should be able to do what you want. Please post the steps you are taking so we can see what the problem might be.

But my underlying question still remains: Why did the "Fit to DVD" feature in an old V6 MyDvd product manage to do what I want (put a 3.5 hour dvr-ms file onto a normal DVD), but a version of software (i.e. EMC v9) based on the features from that older product cannot? What does EMC v9 use to "Fit to Disk"? Is it something to do with codecs on the same system that have somehow been replaced and are not as capable?

Exactly what did you do to try this? Was the quality in MyDVD 6 good? I don't have any dvr-ms files to test this on (only have MC for Vista now) so I'm not sure about those files but you still should be able to fit this with very low bitrates.
In video, size does not matter, only time but depending on your process, this should work in 9 like it did in 6.

In V6 I just left it "Fit to DVD" (that's the name of the feature in that version). The quality was fine. I tried the manual adjustments in V9 and couldn't fit the same amount onto a DVD. I still have V6, but when I now try it it craps out when trying to compress the video with the "Fit to DVD" feature. Between the time it worked and it stopped, I'm not sure what changed on my system. It might have been that I upgraded my nVidia video card from a 440 to 6600. But my MPEG Emuzed card didn't change so I thought that would be what it used for this compression work.
I phoned support, but there suggestion was to upgrade to V9 and maybe it would fix it. It now can compress, but not nearly to the same degree.
