I have several .avi files that I am trying to set the button picture and for whatever reason when I get the clip I want to be the button and click on "set button picture" it remains blank.

The video files play fine within Toast (v8) it just dosen't allow me to set a particular clip. This is true for all the .avi files. It is the same on Toast (v7) as well.

I don't have this issue if I am using .mov or mpeg4 files. Is it a limitation with .avi files or am I missing something?

It really is unattractive looking at a bunch of black buttons on the menu.

Thanks,

Bob

ps they are actually Xvid 640x372 and Xvid 640x368 files. Hope this helps

You set the menu button by clicking on the video's thumbnail in the Video window. A scroll bar appears beneath that you can slide to another key frame from the video.

Yes, that's what I did.

From the main window I click on "edit" then click on "video" then drag the play arrow on the video preview line to clip I want to be the button, then I click on "set button" and instead of the small button being set to what is shown in the video preview window, the video preview window goes blank (meaning black).

As I said, I take the very same steps when using a .mov or mpeg4 file and the button sets to what is in the video preview window. So maybe there is something different with an Xvid file, I don't know.

I actually suggested a different way of doing it. Try clicking on the button image in the Video window itself, not in the Edit window. A scroll bar appears underneath that you can slide it to select the thumbnail image.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it dosen't make any difference. The button image in the main window is also black. Clicking on it and moving the scroll bar does not show the actual video. When I click on edit/video and play it in the preview, it does fine, but it will not change the button to be what you want it to be.

There must be something with Xvid video files that don't work well with the setting of the thumb nail image in the main window and the set button window in the edit/video window. Is this a bug?

Don't know. What happens when you do this in Toast 7?

To be sure that the video actually works and can be viewed, I encoded a disc image and it does work as expected. But the menu is very unapealing as each title has a blackened image. there's got to be a bug somewhere that causes .Xvid files to not allow you to set the button.

Any one else experienceing this.

As I said, button images work fine with .mov and mpeg4 files.

Thanks,

Bob

Do you know which QT component is installed on your system? Are you using DivX or 3ivx?

Bob,

I have the Perian codec so I trashed the Xvid codec on my Mac. I finally found an XVID-encoded movie trailer to download and I'm having no issues with selecting a button image using either method we've discussed.
