Very strange indeed. Nobody else has reported having this issue. This appears to be only be happening on your Macbook Pro.
This is what I understand from your post:
Toast 7 works with both the internal and external drive.
Toast 8 only recognizes blank discs in the external drive. When you do not have an external drive connected Toast 8 does not see any blank disc in the internal drive.
What would make sense is if Toast 8 did not see the internal drive's blank disc at the time you also had the external drive connected. In that case (which has happened to me) you need to click the name of the drive at the bottom of the Toast window so Toast selects the internal instead of external drive.
You also cannot have both Toast 7 and Toast 8 open at the same time and pointing at the same drive. (You can have them both open pointing at different drives, however).
That's all I can think of that could explain what is happening here.
