I have been running EMC 6 and EMC 8 on my system for some time although lately I just use EMC 8. Yesterday I installed EMC 9. The install did not go well. It never let me delete EMC 6 and hung for over an hour before I rebooted the system. It finally installed without removing EMC 6. So now I have EMC 6, 8 & 9 on the system.

The project I am working on is the conversion of LPs to digital and it's been going well in EMC 8. I purchased EMC 9 because I read a good review and it had some features that I liked such as the ability to turn off system sounds which can really crap up a recording.

Whe I activiated the LP/Tape assistant, I discovered that the moment I stopped the recording I got a message that the program had encountered a problem and needed to close. When I tried the Audio Capture facility, the same thing happened....i.e. same message as soon as the stop recording button was selected

I haven't tried any of the video programs yet but I expect that they will also cause me grief.

I am running the software on a Sony system which meets all of Roxio's requirements. I am running the latest version of IE 7.

Any help in pinpointing/solving these problems will be appreciated. Also, should I uninstall EMC 6 & 8?

The first thing you should do is uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6.There have been numerous problems reported being caused by IE7 and not just to Roxio software.Try this first and see what happens.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I appreciate your taking the time to help me. Your suggestion is unacceptable to me. I have used IE 7 without problems both in the beta state and the final release. There is nothing in the Roxio system requirements that suggests incomapatability with IE 7. Thr requirements clearly state 5.01 or higher. IE 7 caused no problems for EMC 8 and I can always go back to that version before I turn my life upside down uninstalling IE 7.

It's not your fault but I'm beginning to think that Roxio is becoming bloated crap and I'm kicking myself for continuing to upgrade rather than leave well enough alone. That said, I still welcome other solutions.

You need to do a search of the multitude of threads on the forums, dealing with IE7 then contact Microsoft and ask them why the hell they put out software that fouled up software programs. EMC 9, 8, 7, and 6 are not the only programs that it ruins. Do a search of the net.

You say IE7 doesn't affect EMC 8. You would be about the only person that I have seen, that it doesn't. Wait until you load Vista when it is released to the public at the end of this month.

Roxio has stated that there will be a patch coming, shortly after Vista is released to the public. I am hoping that the patch will address all of Microsoft's mistakes with IE 7, Vista, and WMP 11.

Thanks, it's helpful to know that there may be a patch on the way. I've already looked through the threads before I started this so I'm aware of the IE 7 issue. But, if that's the only problem and I doubt that it is, I think I'll wait it out and try the patch.

I don't have IE7, and I have the same problem (it seems to me.) Whenever LP and Tape Assistant, or Audio Capture, or Sound Editor saves a file, it then crashes. The file they make is OK, though.

This is very annoying to make one file at a time, especially since I'm transferring LPs to digital.

It turns out to be a conflict caused by installing D2D from EMC8 after installing EMC 9. It seems that LPandTapeAsst.exe was trying to call the EMC8 MediaDB instead of the EMC9 one. A clean install of EMC9 fixed things. I haven't reinstalled D2D yet, so that may break things again.

BTW, Roxio, finding this was fun. You add 75,533 registry keys while installing this product! Talk about code bloat, sheesh!

Complex programs require keys. You can thank MS for the Registry system, it was strictly their making… If you have ever written a program you would know there is no provision to tell it what keys to use. That is out of the programmers hands.

Of course this was self-inflected. You insisted on using a packet writer and V9 would not install on your W2K system…
