I can't seem to find how to finalize a music cd. Creator 5 had a window that asked me if I wanted to finalize. I burned a cd and it works fine in my car and pc but not in our home player!!!! Is that because it hasn't been finalized.

Doubtful that it would work in your car if it wasn't finalized but you can check using the Disc and Device Utility.

Generally it's the other way around - will work in a player but not the car!!

It's possible the player either doesn't like CD-Rs, or that particular brand of CD-Rs.  That's especially likely if it's an older player.

And I don't think EMC 7.5 let you create an unfinalized Audio CD.  (Though I may be wrong on that.)  You definitely can't with EMC 8 or 9.

Hi, does EMC 8 or 9 finalize automatically or do you get a window where you manually click FINALIZE.

Well, if it won't let you create an unfinalized Audio CD, then there is no need for a window to manually "finalize" it, is there?  It does it automatically.  I also agree that if your Car CD player will play the disc, then it's probably finalized and there's some other reason that your home stereo won't play the disc.  But if you look at the disc properties you should be able to tell if it's finalized or not.

Since you posted your question in the Version 7 forum, I'm assuming you are using Version 7.x.  For some bizarre reason, Roxio decided to stop using the widely accepted term "closing" or "finalizing" when referring to completing the burn process to a cd.  In Version 7, your cd is "finalized", if you have checked the "read only" box in the burn dialog box before actually burning.  If you think you may have a disc which has not been finalized, insert it in your burner, and go to the "Disc & Device Utility" from your initial menu box in V.7.  There you can check to see the status of your disc, and finalize it if necessary.

If you have burned and finalized a proper standard digital audio cd, it should play in most any standalone cd player including home players, cars, portables, etc.  However, there are a number of issues you can run into, such as:
1.  using a particular brand of cd media a player does not like (this is very rare).
2.  using cdrw media and trying to play in a device that cannot handle cdrw media (this is pretty common)
3.  playing a burned cd-r in an older dvd player that cannot handle cd-r media (most newer dvd players handle cd-r media just fine, but many older ones do not).
4.  actually burning a mp3 disc, where the audio is stored in mp3 files controlled by a playlist on the disc and trying to play it on a device that cannot handle mp3's (pretty common).

So, you may need to tell us more detail of exactly what you burned and how you did it and exactly what devices you are trying to play it on.
