I originally started with Toast 6, then purchased the upgrade to 7. I am, as many people are, getting frustrated with the upgrade price continuing to be not a lot less than the actual price. Is is worth it to upgrade to 8?

For me, definitely because I use Toast a lot and want all improvements available to me. Heck, I'd get it just for the improved Media Browser. For you, it may be that you are very satisfied with Toast 7.

As a comparison, Apple typically releases a new version of its iLife suite every year and offers no discount to previous users. You may not feel the improvements of iLife '06 make it worth upgrading from iLife '05 while someone else is eager to make the switch. It all depends on your needs, your satisfaction with the current version and your budget.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

It supports more file formats (input/output). iPod, PSP, 1080, 720 & tons of format.

Tivo Transfer and Blu-ray support.

The Media Broswer is nice cause it works well with Spotlight.

Much much stronger in music CD creation...

For the same kinds of tasks?

No.

If you've got a late-model TiVo, you might see some added value in it. Otherwise...

Absolutely not.

Too many bugs and excepting the primitive crossfades for audio discs, no significant improvements.

After considered thought and assurances that they have no plans to fix the most egregious issues in the software, I am recommending that people stick with Toast 7 if they've got it.

The awful support and the not-ready-for-primetime nature of the product demonstrate such an uncaring attitude that I'm treating it as if Sonic has end-of-lifed Toast as of this release. Anyone who wants a viable burning solution for present and future use under OS X should seek it elsewhere.

Anyone wondering about what Minerva is referring to as "most egregious issues" can read his thread Here.

Uh, yeah, let's not compare Apple's products to Roxio.

Okay, I admit my remark about Apple not discounting iLife for previous users was a cheap shot and wish I had left that out of my previous post. Apple offers significant upgrade discounts to previous purchasers of their Pro apps. But the comparison between whether or not to buy an iLife upgrade is very much like the decision regarding buying the Toast upgrade. You know your existing version is very good and you wonder if you'll really find the improved version to be noticeably better. The answer is "It depends on what you want it to do."

Since Roxio doesn't provide free trial versions of its applications I appreciate that they do have a refund policy for download purchases that provides a trial period. Using it is the only way to answer the question "Is it worth it to upgrade from Toast 7?"

Just to let everyone know, it is okay to keep Toast 7 when you upgrade to Toast 8. In fact, you can use them both at the same time except they cannot be pointed to the same disc burner.
