won't burn won't simulate

Help!! when i try to simulate my dvd, it comes up with my menu, I click my menu to play the movie and it comes up ''operating system error HRESULT = 0x80040217 no combination of itermediate filters to be found to make the connection''..... I HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE WOT THAT MEANS!! my dvd wont burn either, but its got to have something to do with that, I hope someone can help!! PLEASE.

ok. second time now I have seen that error. what kind of audio and video are you trying to burn/transcode? do you have a lot of different DVD programs on this computer? Nero? Divx stuff? conflicting codecs? What version of Windows Media Player?

I am trying to burn avi files, iv'e tried converting them to mpeg but with no results! i have clone dvd and windows media player 11 also the latest real player. I also have divx codec, player and converter! tahts about it, thanx for ur time

divx avi or dv avi? I don't know, but I feel like this is a divx file issue...why it still effects it when it is converted to mpeg I do not know. could be a conflict with that converter.

Thaks for your time, I have managed to sort this problem out, i re-formated the pc!.. just to c what it was i put all my codivx codecs and cd burners in first! then installed dvdit! it semms to have got rid of the problem! Dont know what it was so i cant put it on here to help others! ta.
