I have both the stand alone version and the version in toast 8 both say 6.4 BUT the version in toast 8 does not appear to multithread (checking activity monitor on mac pro) and the advanced menu is not exactly the same .. there was not auto option on one setting.

I converted a mov file on my mac pro and the stand alone version exporting via quicktime was faster and was multithreading on all 4 processors while the toast 8 export took longer and the processor bars danced up and down and clearly was not multithreading. Can Roxio please confirm that divx conversions do not multithread on multicore processors - this was a new feature in 6.4 but maybe toast 8 itself does not multithread so its turned off......

Anyone use both that can compare please post your findings.... if you convert your mov's to divx it looks like you better use the stand alone version via divx.com for speed because toast 8 will take longer.

Toast 8 doesn't have Divx 6.4 for several reasons.  6.4 is faster than the older version used in Toast though. My guess is Roxio will add the newer version in a Toast 8 update.

When I go to encode in Toast ver 8 it clearly says 6.4 - which is the latest version of the divx encoder. But since it runs inside toast 8 maybe thats why it will not multithread.... I dont know for sure but I could send you a screen shot that clearly shows the version number right before it encodes.

The DivX encoder build into Toast is not 6.4.  It's older.  If you are seeing 6.4, your not selecting the build in Toast Divx encoder.

That pic with the 6.4 must be showing because you have 6.4 installed, but I know it's not using that to encode.  It's using the build in Divx codec.  If you click options in Toast, you will see the settings are different.

With DivX 6.4 installed on the OS, that info seems to change to show 6.4.  However, that info comes from QuickTime.  Toast is not using the 6.4 codec.
