Hello, I understand there are many problems with EMC 8, and I am having many of them.

I have a new Celeron D 3.07 GHz, 1 GB RAM computer. I have the NEC DVD RW 3550 burner (supposedly burns - + R/RW/DL discs).

Here are my problems.
1) I am using TiVo desktop 2.2 to transfer files from my TiVo to the computer. Whenver EMC 8, or any of its components open and access the My TiVo recordings folder I get an error saying I don't have permission to access those files because they are either not authentic TiVo files or that I don't have the right Media Access Key. Closing the window or hitting OK both result in the window coming right back. So far, the only solution I have found is to open Task Manager and exit every Roxio application I can find. How did I even get TiVo desktop to transfer them if I have the wrong key and how do I get EMC 8 to recognize that I have the right key?

2) I have found the Direct Show Dump Filter workaround, and am using that to strip the .tivo off and make the files into .mpeg. I then use Roxio to edit the commercials out. This usually causes the system to crash, but it appears that is just Roxio. Apparently using storyboard view and splitting to edit out commercials is much harsher than timeline view and just copy-and-pasting the file a bunch and editing the start/stop times around the commercials. The major problem is this. When I go to burn the DVD, the window comes up and shows me that it is rendering. When it finishes rendering the .mpeg and the menu into DVD format, it then starts to burn the disc. At this point, I get a window that comes up and shows me that I have inserted a blank DVD and what do I want to do with it. I just hit cancel because I inserted the disc 4 hours ago and already have told Roxio what to do with it. Then Roxio comes up with an error saying "F: not accessible". I hit OK, and then look at the content of the disc. The disc is labeled how I told Roxio to label it, but there is nothing else burnt onto to it. 0 kb according to My Computer window. What am I doing wrong and how can I get MyDVD to burn what I told it to?

Not sure what you mean. Crashing usually happens when I split in timeline mode. What I really need help with is getting what renders to burn to the disc though. It renders just fine. I actually sat and watched it do it for about an hour to make sure that my editing wasn't causing problems with the render and it didn't. It renders all the way, creates the menu, then says it's burning the disc. Almost immediately Windows (XP pro SP2, fully updated) asks me what I want to do with the disc. I click on either "do nothing" or "cancel" because Roxio appears to have already started burning the disc. At this point, I get a Roxio error saying "F: not accessible". So is Windows interfering with Roxio, causing the burn to fail? How do I stop this? Do I just have to do an .ISO for everything I make, even if I'm just doing one disc? Seems like if that's the answer then Nero might be a better choice for trying to burn the discs.

i guess i should have defined that before. Yes, F: is the NEC DVD-RW drive.
I also have a DVD/CD-RW drive (E:). If I take the failed burn disc described above and put it in E:, then the drive locks up and I have to manually open the drive to retrieve the disc and restore normal operation. That can't be normal either.

Are you able to play it in your F Drive after the burn is complete( take it out of your dvd and reinsert)?? Does it do the same thing?

No, it doesn't play from the F drive because it doesn't burn anything onto the disc. What I described above is what happens when I use MyDVD to try to write the disc.

Early this afternoon, I converted one DVD production into an .ISO and then tried to use disc copier to make the DVD that way. It created the .ISO fine, but when I tried to burn it, it told me "unspecified error [0x80004005]." Whatever that means.

Since NEC technical support is free, I called them. They suggested I switch the NEC drive from slave to master. Doing that makes it give me "Write Error - Medium Error. [03/0C/00]"

So is anyone familiar with [0x80004005] or [03/0C/00] errors?

I think this created a new problem. Usually medium problems occur when the media can not be read or written to.
Are there any firmware updates for your burner???

Secondly, What time of video card do you have??

I am starting to suspect that this is an issue with the DVD drive itself. I did get the firmware update from the NEC site for the drive, but it would seem that there are some other serious issues going on that all involve the drive. Apparently the drive no longer reads DVD format at all. It still will read CD's but if I put a DVD in, the computer locks up and has all sorts of problems. I am going to try to work this out those first and then give this another shot. Hopefully I can get this to work someday....
