I am currently running Windows XP MCE 2005 with all available patches applied. I am using a ADS Pyro A/V Link (firewire) to capture old video tapes to DVD (I am tired of lugging around the tapes). I've been trying to get the Media Import to work with this system (it works fine on an older Windows XP machine).
I've applied the Firewire patch (KB885222). I've made sure the RoxWatch and RoxMediaDB are both running in services. I've even upgraded EMC to 8.05 and it still crashes and burns on Media Import whenever I press the the Video button. There are no logs showing any problems on Windows or in EMC. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the application several times. I've tried the email version of their Customer Non-Support and got exactly that ... non-support. Calling Toronto when it's not Toll Free is not an option.
I am able to capture video using any other product out there including Microsoft Windows Movie Maker. So it's pretty much down to this product. I am hoping there might be someone out there who does know the fix to this because I do like EMC (even with the shabby customer support).

Unfortunately, analog capture isn't well supported and really depends on the hardware drivers. EMC8 does not include any type of drivers and depends on the drivers from each manufacturer. Are the drivers from ADS certified by Microsoft? Check their website for updated drivers. I have an ADS USB2 webcam and Media Imports work fine with it.
If it works fine with the included software, you should be able to use the files captured with that software within Videowave and MyDVD.

It uses the certified Windows XP driver and like I said it works on every other application the captures analog data (even Uleads VideoStudeo 9 works capturing it even though it says it does recognize the driver). And I had it working fine on a Windows XP machine with an older firewire card. Its very sad that Roxio states that it does support all types of media and equipment and then totally fails. I hope someone else has an idea.

I went ahead and reinstalled Windows XP MCE 2005 SP2 and all follow on patches and installed ONLY EMC 8.05. Media Import still fails miserably using MCE device called AVC Compliant DV Camcorder (this is the driver it installs and ADS says it is the correct one for this product). Any one else having issues with this device in Windows XP or XP MCE?

I am having the exact same "crash" problem with Media Import!
"whenever I press the the Video button. There are no logs showing any problems on Windows or in EMC. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the application several times. I've tried the email version of their Customer Non-Support and got exactly that ... non-support."
ggrussell is already helping me.
I have no idea what to do, I am new to all this. I don't know what Firewire patch. What can I do?
Thanks, Iza

I'm probably way out in left field with this suggestion and comment but it might just help someone else that has had the problem I had, then solved.
I'm not sure about EMC 8, but in version 7.5 when I want to "import" or capture some video from my camcorder, it would always stop within a few seconds and I would get nothing. There is an option in the program (EMC 7.5) that lets you enter how long you want to capture for, the entire tape or Manually. For a while (not knowing that my option was set for "manual" and the time was defaulted to only 5 seconds), Every time I would start to record, it would just stop without any error messages or anything. Once I went back and set the time to way more than I knew was on the tape or set it to capture the entire tape, I had no more problems.
Just a suggestion and may not be the OP's problem at all.
Frank....

please take a look at this link... http://forums.suppor...?...ic=7049&hl=
"Media Import still shuts down completely as soon as I click on Video or Photo. Any other recommendations? I should have the video camera on, right? On Player, connected to dazzle and dazzle connected to the USB port. Anything else?"
I still can't get the Media Import to work. If anybody has a recomendation it would be great!
Thanks, Iza
