I have Roxio creator LE Dell Version as a "gift" on my new XPS 410 which runs on xp media center 2005. Everytime the machine boots it opens a windows installer and then a Sonic Activation Module that wants a CD to update (which I don't have). The sonic site has an "ISUM_Hotfix" to fix this problem but it does not work. I can shut off the installer request but I need to use task manager.

I have a DVD Rom (D Drive) and a combo CD/DVD burner. I can burn a dvd (data disk jpeg files) but even though I run the make compatable option it will only run on my PC. Other PCs don't recognize the disc (DVD-R).

I can burn a CD but I need to use the windows program. Does windows have it's own DVD burn tool or do I need 3rd party software (hence the free Roxio Creator LE)? Whenever I try to burn to the DVD nothing happens unless I use Roxio creator.

I also have Easy Media Creator 7 which will burn DVDs. I guess I could uninstall the free addition and install that.

Any help?

With an OEM version, updates and so on are the responsibility of the manufacturer (the software is modified for them and the 'standard' updates from Roxio won't work)

Windows XP does have a session writing system - but for CD only. How compatible it will be I can't say (never used it) but it should be fine on other machines running XP and it cannot handle DVD

I'd be tempted to uninstall the Dell s/w and install EMC7 with the following caveat

Do NOT install either Internet Explorer 7 and/or Windows Media Player 11 - either of those will wreck EMC7
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Thanks-I'm still waiting from Dell. Pisses me off to spend$1900 and have a DVD burner that won't allow me to share a DVD with others (works fine on my PC). I think I'll try writing to CD-Its just about 500 jpegs of my nephews wedding. He and his bride are anxious to get them. Shoulld fit on 2 cds.

Dell has a knowledgebase article about DVD/CD burning here. Try that and see if it helps.

They also have a user discussion forum where you might find help specific to your model and problem.
