I don't know what the error means, but I know that that Philips burner has had a lot of problems.

I got a similar error when a few of my burns failed part way through and left me with coasters.

I think it might have been a disc quality issue as I was trying a brand of cheaper discs. On close inspection of the discs surfaces the coating didn't appear "uniform".

When I reverted back to the original brand I used it burned o.k.

I've used Memorex DVD-R, TDK DVD+R, Verbatim DVD+R, Sony DVD-R and get the same results. I have multi brand coasters.

Unfortunately it's probably your drive - it has a very bad reputation. One quote on the afterdawn thread is:

"...You want the truth about the PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8631 ?
Do whatever it takes, but get DELL to replace it.

There are so many people who has problems with this drive it's incredible !

I know what I'm talking about, father in law got his replaced 2 days ago, and I have my call in with Dell to get it replaced.

We both got a PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8631 that came with our Dell Dimention 8400.

And don't take no for an answer, let them know you want the NEC-3450A
(It's the Dell OEM of the NEC-3500). ..."
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
