I recently purchased EMC9, had been using creator 6 w/o major problems.

at first creator classic seemed to be working fine but now when I start it up, a DAO installer/confugure routine starts up (I have no idea where this is coming from or why) and ends with "windows installer cannot continue" and after I get rid of that there is an additonal "server busy" message with an option to switch to ??? or retry.

CC9 is frozen, I have to go to task mgr to close it.

how can I resolve this problem? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I have renamed DAO files in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO but that didn't help.

I have looked at some of the posts around this. but I'm still not sure what to do. I have a Radeon 9550 apparently ATI graphic card. can I simply just uninstall DAO? do I need it for anything? does anyonze know why this whole DAO routine is being called up? :)

thanks for the help.

If you have an ATI card, the DAO that ATI installs is not compatable with the DAO that is part of several Microsoft apps. Look for DAO in the control panel under Add or Remove programs. If DAO is listed, uninstall it. The DAO that is part of the microsoft apps will not have the option to uninstall it so if there is one listed, it can be safely removed.

It is always good practive to create a restore point prior to installing or removing and apps.

hi,

thanks for the suggestion. I did uninstall DAO and that seemed to solve the problem - CC9 did not freeze and the DAO routine did not come up. now sometjhing different is happening. I went to make a data disc, added two files to the project, had a blank CD in the drive. when I clicked on burn, the burn setup dialog box came up but it had a strange apparence, e.g. it was somewhat transparent, and had blocks of black at different places in the box. couldn't read it. then a few seconds later, the message "roxio creator classic has encountered a problem and needs to close...etc" appeared.

"error signature" was AppName: creator9.exe AppVer: 9.0.2.16 ModName: mfc71u.dll
ModVer: 7.10.3077.0 Offset: 00036916

this has never happened before. do you know what this is all about and what else I need to do to fix this? thanks again.

Can't help with that one.
I have my autoplay turned off on all my cd/dvd drives. Maybe try that. It has been a while but I remember I had a few problems with cd/dvd burning in general until I turned it off. If you want to turn off the autoplay, it has to be done with a registry edit unless you have a utility like TweakUI.

Now that the foreign DAO is gone, may try to re-install / repair the EMC app.

I am just guessing though.
