Well, I'm no different than the rest of you who have had this problem. I couldn't resolve it in Safe Mode while disabling anything Roxio in the MSCONFIG start up items. It still hangs. I'm not sure how to go back to IE 6 (since I've loaded other progams on my computer since it's install) without causing other problems with other programs. I recently updated my video card driver before purchasing EMC9 today, so I know that's not the problem. I was running EC/D6 before this with absolutely NO problems. I do have Media Player 11 on my computer though.
So does anyone have any further things to try without having to dismantle my entire system just to load this software????

(I posted this as a new topic so that those who were following the old thread could find this one easier.
There was a previous topic started by someone else, but since I had a question originally, I didn't want it getting lost in the shuffle. So if you are reading this due to a similar problem with windows restarting after installation, you may want to start with the original post and then read this post again so it makes more sense.)
Ok, I'd like to add some comments to my original post. I did get windows to load finally after going into safe mode and rolling back to the previous version of Windows Media Player (I had 11 installed). I left the Roxio start up items alone, since I wanted to do a process of elimination. However, I also disabled the Acronis True Image Monitor in start up by using MSCONFIG and also the Corel Photo Loader (not sure exactly what it's called). I figured if anything was going to interfere with the finishing of the installation, it would be either of those. You may or may not have those programs loaded on your computer, so that may not be the issue for you, but I'm one of those who has to figure everything out since I absolutely HATE having to reformat my hard drive. Reloading a new hard drive was bad enough. I've been a couple of days at it already and am NOT looking forward to doing it again! LOL
I suspect that the real culprit is the Media Player version 11, but I can't say for sure yet, until I enable the other two start up items. But it's a start. I left IE 7 installed, so I know that is NOT the problem (at least not on MY machine). Just thought I'd post my findings thus far.

Jeanie, there have been various posts concerning the effect of both WMP11 and IE7.At this point most were being caused by IE7 although WMP11 is being found to be suspicious as well.If you continue to have any problems try rolling back to IE6 and see if that solves them.

Actually, IE 7 had nothing to do with it. I've got my program up and running at 100% now (WITHOUT uninstalling IE 7). Here's what I found. There was a post by someone who (even though was a bit stressed at another individual for his comments about the program) made a comment about uninstalling McAfee Anti-Virus altogether and then installing the program. Well after trying several other things that were posted, I figured I'd take him up on his advice that he gave someone else and it worked!
So, for my scenario, it was get rid of Windows Media player 11 (rollback to 10 or older), uninstall McAfee Anti-Virus, uninstall any other programs that use "write to disk" features (like HP's Memory Disk for example, which comes inside a lot of Hp's printer software), load EMC9, and then reinstall McAfee. That was all there was to it. No errors, no hang ups, no nothing....just pure sailing from then on
So anyway, hope it can help someone else get their system figured out in a shorter amount of time than it took me. But as I said, I am one who will play til I figure it out. I knew it wasn't the program, but the configuration and the way I had my computer set up.
Above and beyond anything else, UINSTALL YOUR ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM and then install the program, then REINSTALL the anti-virus. That will probaby solve a multitude of problems for most people.
