I've already made a few different productions and burnt them to disk so I know my CPU can handle the software of EMC9. I just need to know is there a way to speed up the process of opening other apps in EMC9, I.E. going from video capture to disk editor or boucing back and forth between any of the other features? I was thinking upgrading the memory, will this work? Right now I have 512MB RAM, if I get another GB will that help move things along? Sometimes I wait like a minute or more for one program to close and another to open, is this normal?. Wish I could list my specs but right now the CPU I use is being looked at I do have ATI graphics with the latest driver. Thanks.

IMHO, 1gig RAM is the 'sweet' spot for WinXP.  I have 2gig and Windows never comes close to using most of it.

Hi Gary. Hey I'm not too computer savy so I wasnt sure what to make of your comment. I do know that more memory will help me with multiple tasks, however this EMC9 of mine and the lag I get when I go from 1 program in it to another is killing me! So my question(s) are the 512MB I have now although its enough to run EMC9 could that be why everything takes so long? Also, would the upgrading my memory help with that? Thanks again.

I would say it would help some.  Windows itself needs most of 512MB. When you start loading apps, there is a lot of swapping to the pagefile.  If you are closing apps and opening others, this process would be faster with more memory. Whether or not it would be much faster may depend on the CPU speed and hard drive I/O.  When it comes to 'perceived' speed, there are many parts of a computer that work together.  If all you do is add more memory, Windows will indeed seem faster loading and unloading programs simply because Windows will not be using the pagefile as much. Maybe I should ask what you CPU speed is? If you have anything less than 2GHz, I would save my money for a new computer.

I added another 512MB to my Gateway laptop and certainly haven't regretted it.

A word of advice if you consider adding more memory - go to control panel, system, advanced and increase the size of the pagefile. You'd think that more physical RAM would mean a smaller pagefile but it's the other way round - set min and max to at least double your physical RAM
