I am considering getting a digital video DVD camera. Can EMC 8 import the video for editing from a Sony DCR-DVD403 camera? This camera records DVD-R DVD-RW and DVD+RW and I want to know if I can import these files and edit the videos?

Is this camera firefire capatible? If it is I would say yes.

If not you can always use the sofware that comes w/ the campra to capture and import into video wave fro editing and My dvd to create a dvd

Although Media Import can capture from a miniDVD, I'm sure most of us here would recommend a miniDV tape camcorder instead. First, editing MPEG files isn't recommended and can cause problems like video/audio out of sync issues. Granted not everyone has that problem, but 'could' happen. Most of all, digital video capturing was originally designed for transfer using firewire and you'd hard pressed to find a video application that didn't support it. There isn't much support for the newest camcorders either like those that record directly to memory devices or hard drive. Some of those record in MPEG2 and some use MPEG4. For the least amount of trouble and headaches, I recommend a digital tape devices like digital 8mm or miniDV camcorders.

If using a mini-dvd camcorder all you need to do is put the disc in the computer and Roxio capture should detect it for capture. Some mini-dvd camcorders don't close out the disc until the end or until you eject it. So if something happens to the camera you lose everything! Mini-dv tapes you will find being used in most if not all of the high end video camcorders costing thousands. My sisiter gave me one (minidvd) from a Hitachi and it had video and sound in two different files that I could not use, it had not been formatted properly by the proprietory software the camcorder used. Proprietory means exclusive to that camera or software (you just can't put in in a computer and fix it). I have some analog 8mm tapes from a Sony camcorder from over 10 years ago and they still work really well today. One little scratch on a dvd and its adios to everything on the disc.
