okay, here's a question.

tivo records video on its hard drive at the NTSC standard size of 640x480 pixels. however, use toast's tivo manager to move across a program and when you go to burn it to DVD, toast reports the size is actually 480x480. a perfect square.

obviously, the video is then being stretched horizontally back to size when the video is burnt to DVD.

my question is, why???

why degrade the quality of the tivo recording by downsizing it and then stretching it back into shape?

BTW, for the sake of argument, i also downloaded tivodecode manager and guess what? the file it brings over is, you guessed it, 640x480. full tv size.

what is going on here?????

it doesn't downsize it... the tivo stores it as 480x480... the exact size it is when brought over to your Mac... when burning to a DVD, Toast converts it to 640x480 on the fly.
