Thanks for the help.  I'll give it a try.  I hope they get the other issue figured out soon as I'm already getting tired of seeing that darn error.

I think we need a cleanup tool from Roxio for that - a patch won't do it (or I don't think it will). I've been in contact and asked for something to be made available

... and I would respectfully suggest that you check your facts before replying with snide remarks!  Vista was released to manufacturers in November, but to the general public on 30th January.  The idea is that manufacturers and developers have access to the software months before launch, giving them plenty of time to develop their software and drivers to work prior to the public launch.  Waiting for the public launch, and for users to have all of these errors, is no good.  I had a Beta version of Vista months and months ago (as a home user), and was sent an RTM version (legally) in November.  So for software companies to be at a point in time several days past the _general public_ launch with no resolution to these errors is surely embarrasing on their part.  All decent software providers have had "Vista Beta" versions of their software and drivers up on their websites for weeks/months!

In case you don't believe me (and Silver...), here is the link about the release date.

I just want to let everyone know that we are looking into this and we hope to have a simple way to remove the DLA software soon.  As far as Vista compatibility goes, EMC 9 was written to be fully compatible with Vista.  As Vista evolved from RC 1 to RC 2 and now the final release, many changes were made in Vista itself and we have to adjust a couple of things so that everything will work properly.  As was stated, this isnt an overnight thing, but we are working on it as priority 1.

Other than the error message, is EMC 9 working properly?

Thanks John.  Any "guesstimate" on a release date for a DLA removal tool?  Are we potentially looking at weeks/months, or more like hours/days?

At present my Vista PC is just about unusable as the DLA error pops up in the middle of the screen every 5 seconds and can't be disabled, and my DVD drive is disabled as a result so I cannot install software.

At my office, 4 people have installed Vista.  Three of us on Dells (me on laptop, two on desktop), and another on a toshiba laptop.  ALL four of us have had this same problem.  This is a HUGE issue and there will be thousands of people all over the world looking for a solution.  I appreciate it is number 1 issue for your company... set up a Paypal "developer overtime / pizza fund" and I'll gladly donate a few pounds if it means it'll get sorted quicker.

Thanks,
Russ.

Russ, since I don't have the problem you're having, and this is a guess, uninstalling Drag to Disc which should be listed separately, and see if that helps.  I never did get this message but I uninstalled D2D right after the EMC install.

Update:
Roxio is currently working on a resolution to this issue. The error, while annoying, will not effect Easy Media Creator 9's functionality. However, if you wish to eliminate the error, the only work around at this time is to temporarily remove the update. If you wish to reinstall the update at any time, the Microsoft Knowledge Base article offers a link to re-download it.

Please read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article The Windows Vista Application Compatibility Update before continuing. Removing this update may effect other applications on your computer.

To remove the update:

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
On the left of the Programs and Features window, click View installed updates.
After the Installed Updates window loads, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows payne.
Right-click Update for Microsoft Windows (KB929427) and select Uninstall.
Rather than restart your system, shut it down completely and then reboot. The error should be eliminated.

Not sure if this will actually help anyone but I have been running Vista Enterprise since it's release to busniesses in December.  I installed EMC 9 immediately and have had no issues, other than an original install prob which was resolved by a reboot.  I am getting the same DLA problem as the other users here but only since the Vista updates of a couple of days ago.

Good luck with the fix and please post it soon so we can loose the legacy.

So from the last two posts it sounds like the culprit may be an update MS put out in the last few days. I'll bet it's hard for a company to anticipate what code changes are in those from what the initial release had in it.

Hi Larry,
thats why John has asked them to remove this patch (fix or update) as it seems to be the one causing the issues at this stage... it seems to have stopped it on my test unit pc after i removed it and rebooted

RTM was November 8th, 2006. There have been no changes to the release since that time.

Regarding glasses, well bifocals might come in handy as at 44 I can't seem to focus very well closer than 8 inches. But please note that I can read Arial 9pt. text on my monitors running 1280X1024 at 15'. How's yours ?

I'd suggest you sue your optician - especially if you think there were no changes. For pity's sake - go read the MS boards (and bug them)

:)

So you believe that there is a dfference in RTM from November 8th and the currently shipping retail release ? I'd like to see that documented as I have both the RTM from MSDN and an OEM version and I can assure you that there are no differences there.

I have exactly the same issue and after an hour on the phone with Microsoft tonight, still have that annoying message pop up every 30 seconds.

Have tried everything......uninstalling Roxio/Sonic, chnaging msconfig parameters, registry edits.....nothing seems to get rid of it.

Anyone figure it out? :)

Did you see John at Roxio's post (#48) (quoted below here for you also)? It appears to be be an issue caused by one of the Vista updates MS put out in the last couple days. You can try his suggestion, or wait for Roxio's issuing a fix for it.

I just read the post from John earlier today.  I removed the MS update but it made no difference whatsoever....still an annoying error message very 15 seconds.

This is with the Dell pre-installed Roxio My DVD.  I have the application completely de-installed (at least I think I do?) and still the error...weird!

After removing the update suggested by John did not work, I turned off Windows Update and uninstalled all updates that Vista had installed.

Not a great solution, but the error does not come up now and I can use the machines.

I guess the problem is caused by a combination of updates, or a different one to the one suggested?

I hope there is a real fix soon.

It's being worked on as far as anyone knows and it will either be posted on the forum or will be incorporated in a patch - which, I can't say because I simply don't know
