Thanks in advance for all the help this forum has offered.  I'm just stuck with a problem that I can't solve.  Using EMC8 and MyDVD to burn video to Memorex DVD +RW.  The final product looks good running through Windows media player, Sonic cineplayer and Real player on our Dell 8400.  When I put into our Panasonic S35, Sony DVP C660 or the Sony playstation the video is choppy when the video pans to the left or right.

Why would it look great on the computer and not the TV.

Could be as simple as the media.  ALL Players do not recognize media correctly. Just because it does play (choppy in your case), doesn't meant that the player likes the media.  It's unfortunate, but a fact when creating home DVDs.  Some users here have posted problems with Memorex media.  They seem to play fine on all my set top DVD players.

Another thing. Are you playing a 'file' on those applications or the disc?  There is a huge difference.  If the disc plays fine on the computer, I would try different brand of discs.

Thanks for the help,
I'm playing with the disk in the computer and the TV, both look totally different.  You can watch the computer without getting dizzy.  Too choppy when played on the TV.  Will try another brand of disk.  Best Buy and Office Depo all seem to carry the same ones.  Can you suggest a brand and/or a place?

Take your project dvd into best buy and circuit city and play it on the dvd players they have set up in the store.  Some players are picky.

Never heard of a complaint about Verbatim.

Never heard anything good about Memorex…

I think Gary is correct, brand can make the difference. Also, some Players struggle with certain Types of media. Some won't work with 'dash' and some won't work with 'plus'. Of course you have to have a dual format burner to change types.

I'll add to the Verbatim list. Altho I have used some Memorex that have been ok, I've had some that wasn't. Not so with Verbatim.

I also think it is the media. I have not had a problem yet when playing a disc on my son's PS2

Wow, thanks so much for all the help!  I just found a blank Imation DVD-RW and I think it's the ones that I used before.  Just forgot all about them.  Will try to burn first thing in the morning and see what happens.
Great idea about Best Buy.  Can I verbatim at Best Buy and kill two birds with one stone?

Here is another thought.  The Memorex DVD works fine on the TV, if the program is just a slide show with a little added text and music.  Maybe, I should just stick to that and get out of the video stuff.  I'll let you know tomorrow how the Imation Disk works.

Don't give up. I know it might be a little frustrating now, but once a solution is found, you will be happy that you didn't give up. We all encounter problems and that is why this board is so help becasue there are a lot of very nice people willing to help.

Ok guys here's the whole mess in a nut shell!   I burned  two disks using imation, like Paul suggested.

Disk one- edited mpeg files with the Roxio program and MyDVD8, added music and some text
Disk was choppy and a little wavy.

Disk two-I took the mpegs straight from my camera with Movie AlbumSE into MyDVD4 (which came with my Hitachi DVD) and burned a this disk.    It was crystal clear and the choppy panning right and left was gone!

Both disk were played in the same DVD Player and TV.

Conclussion-  I has to be something to do with Roxio.  Only happens when I am editing with Roxio.  Maybe, I should just be happen with the very limited editing that I can do with MyDVD4.

I read the post "Flickering Video" last night after I posted here.  They were having the same problem as I was.  Brian posted and easy solution about changing Inerlaced to Progressive.  I did this and my problem is solved.
I have no idea what Inerlaced and Progressive is, but once I changed the setting to Progressive the problem went away.

It was a great day yesterday!

Interlaced is how regular TVs 'draw' the video on the screen. It literally draws the odd number lines and then starts at the top again to draw the even number lines. This is done at 60 times a second (locked to the 60Hz power) for a total of 30frames per second. Because of  how our eyes 'see' color and how the phosphorus glows a little after been struck by the electron beam, we preceive these interlaced images as 'one image'.

Computer monitors are progessive devices because they draw the complete image at one time, top to bottom, but to keep our eyes fomr seeing the flicker, it must do it at a rate much higher than 60hz.  Most computer montiors default to 75Hz and some even go higher.

When viewing an interlaced video on a progessive device like a monitor,  we usually see something that most people refer to as 'tearing' or 'jaggies'.  You should NOT be able to see those on a regular TV.  Some newer TVs now have progessive inputs and you would also need a DVD player that has progessive outputs.

If you have Videowave to create a progessive scanned DVD and play it back on a regular TV, then the DVD player will automatically interlace the output.
