When I have created a movie and am ready to burn it to a blank DVD, I select Burn To Disk but then my DVD burner does not appear in the device box for selection.
The drive is visible in windows and I can export as an .mpg and I can burn this to DVD using Nero

My op system is XP Pro X64 on a dual core AMD 4200 CPU with 2 gig of memory
The burner is a Lite-on LH-18A1H HL03

I've now updated my DVD drive firmware to the latest version, and have had the same results. Also the drive does not appear as available in any of the Creator applications.  :)

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have Nero installed you likely have InCD installed which conflicts with EMC's Drag to Disc.  You'll need to uninstall 1 of these as only 1 can be on a system at one time.  Remove 1 and reboot and see if that fixes your problems.

I am having the same issue.  I am ready to burn a movie to the DVD, but the software came with a default CD-RW that you have to use.   It says you have to burn it to a Sony CD-RW, but when I read the tutorial it says that it should be compatible to most CD-RW.  I'm guessing it's not burning b/c the Sony CD-RW is set as the default.  Does any one know how to change the default??????

Please help.  :)

Are you talking about a CD-RW disc here or a drive? I have to admit I'm a bit confused

If it's a disc, then it doesn't make any sense as any writer will write to any R or RW disc and not care about the make

If it's a drive and it's the second optical drive in your system, when you go to burn you should have a panel asking which drive you want to burn to (it will be in a small window with an arrow for moving the destination
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

I don't know how to explain this, to help you understand it better, but I'll give it a try.   Like I said, When I click the BURN button it will start for a sec and then bring up the screen and tell me the drive is empty, but I have a CD-RW disk in my E:\ drive.  On the screen it gives me the option to choose the D:\ or the E:\Sony CD-RW.    When I open "Roxio Creator 9 Home" it shows SONY CD-RW under the "Destination Selection", so I don't if I can only use a Sony CD at this point b/c all I have is HP CD-RW and I would like to change that default if I could so I would be able to use any disk later.  I'm assuming this "is" the issue. :)

Thanks for the quick reply Beerman (send me a can I need one!) I've tried removing Nero, also removed Serif Movie Plus 5.  EMC is still saying that no drive is installed.

Next try is to remove EMC and reinstall to see if it finds the drive.

There are no errors in device manager, and the drive is OK in explorer.

Interestingly Serif Movie Plus gives the same problem, but they also use the Sonic engine.

Any more idea's guys??

Next try after that will be to install it on my old XP Home pc and see if it will work on there.

P.S. posted a ticket on the Roxio site with no response ? any idea if they do get around to it.   Also can't seem to get on there "live" web advisor link ??

Candy - the 'Sony CD-RW' you are seeing is the drive name. You can put any disc you like in that (CD-R, CD-RW) and it will burn.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

If that's the case, then why won't it let me burn the the HP CD-RW????   When I chose the E:\ it shows the Sony name?????

Is it another issue on why I can't burn, my movie then??? :)

Paul, try removing the drive in Device Manager then rebooting.  When Windows restarts, it'll pick up the drive and maybe allow it to be used by EMC.

OK - why the HP disc won't work - did you 'format' it?

If so, go to tools and erase it - you never 'format' a disc unless you are using Drag to Disc (and that is as reliable as an igloo in the Sahara). If it wasn't formatted - try an erase anyway just in case there is something on it

Movies - if it's a big movie, it won't fit on a CD. You will need a DVD rewriter to do that
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Thanks Beerman, tried that with the software installed, but no joy.  I'll give it a go again now everything is uninstalled

Thanks for your help Guys!

IT'S FOUND IT   HOOOOOOOOOORAY  after a complete uninstall / reinstall

Must have been a conflict in the system between EMC and either Nero or Serif Movie plus.

When I'm back to my nornal chilled out mood (still waiting for that can Beerman) I'll try reloading both packages and see if I can track down the fault.

Once again, many thanks - Paul

There is nothing on the disk, b/c it brand new.  I will try and format it anyway.  On the bottom on the screen where it shows the disk sized used and amount of time left.  I have 4029 MB used and 670 MB left   :)

DON'T FORMAT IT!!!!!!!!!!!
erase it

But if it's showing 4 GB free - it's a DVD and not a CD. post back and tell me the actual make and model number of your Sony drive and I'll check on it

We don't have Sony drive.  That's whats confusing me.  I just tried "erasing" the disk and it said no disk is in the drive. :)

Hi Candy,

It's the physical DVD Drive fitted in your PC, that you put your optical media e.g. DVD / CD disks in.
