I am recording LPs to hard drive and then cds. EC7.1 sound editor worked fine with old Compac SoundMax integrated sound. With new HP 7690 with 7.1 sound the sound editor does not find an audio input. I have tried all different setting I can find on sound system but nothing works. I get the music through to the computer speakers but Sound Editor still in the dark. Any ideas?

Have you ckecked the settings in you Volume Control settings, make sure you dont have inputs muted.
