I was just wondering if anybody has been able to capture video or use a TV tuner with EMC9 running on Windows XP Pro 64bit? Which capture devices will work with Window 64bit? I want to purchase a TV tuner with capture capabilities and also transfer VHS tapes to DVD. I have looked in the list of compatible devices but none of them specifically say Windows XP x64 compatibility. Perhaps I could dig a little further into the individual product's web pages to see if they have drivers and so forth but I thought perhaps someone here could give me some quick answers.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.
BTW, just got EMC9 and so far it's been great!

All you can do really is dig a little deeper on the websites. Specifically check their driver updates and see if any of them list XP 64 as an option

For those interested:
Just wanted to give an update on supported capture devices that will run on a 64bit OS. So far I have found no products on the list that have 64bit drivers. Indirectly, the All-In-Wonder graphics cards from 9600 and above have 64bit drivers. However, I did find a few non-supported ATI tuners that have 64bit drivers. The TV-Wonder 650 Pro and 550 Pro both have 64bit drivers. Hauppage said that all new video capture products will have 64bit drivers, due to the release of Vista.
I suppose that I'll have to go with a non-supported device and use other software for video capture. It seems to me that since Roxio has Windows XP Pro 64bit as a compatible OS and then gives a list of compatible video capture devices, that the capture devices were tested with all operating systems included in the "Minimum System Requirements" list. They even have a "**" note by Windows x64 stating that DVDInfo Pro will not run on Windows x64. Why not include in that footnote, "Supported video capture devices were not tested in a 64bit environment."

That's why I sort of gave up on the 64 bit OS. I did have it installed but ran into a lot of problems with hardware drivers.
The fact that there will be 64 bit drivers for Vista is a bit of a red herring tho - these will be VISTA drivers and not XP Pro 64 ones.
EMC9 (and 8) will work on the 64 bit OS - however, they run in the X86 program files in a compatibility mode (7 didn't run at all).
The real problem is down to peripheral cards which never had any 64 bit drivers available - video capture from firewire, audio capture and so on worked fine, but dedicated internal cards needed drivers which were not (and still are not) available. The same cards work in the 32 bit OS so in the end, it's down to the card makers to produce drivers

Ok, I've found that the ATI TV-Wonder Elite also has 64bit drivers. This one is on the list of supported capture devices. The TV-Wonder Elite is built around the ATI Theater 550 Pro chipset and they are saying that any capture device that contains the Theater 550 Pro or Theater 650 Pro chipset will work on XP64 and Vista64 systems. Oh well, I have ordered the TV-Wonder 550 which is not listed in the list but contains the same chipset as the Elite. Perhaps EMC9 will be able to use it. Has anybody had any luck with capture devices that are not on the supported list?
I will post an update as to the functionallity of the 550 after I install it.

Well, the ATI TV-Wonder 550 will work with EMC9 video capture and Windows XP 64 bit. I'm sure there are other cards, derived from the ones on the supported devices list, that will work with EMC9. However, it's kind of funny, the software that came with the 550, Catalyst Media Center, will not install on my PC. ATI support insists that this isn't a 64 bit problem and says that there have been several PC's that it simply will not install on. They are working on the problem. In the mean time, I have no program to watch full screen TV with. Perhaps I'll try a different card or a third-party software. I'm just starting to edit commercials out and have started over several times due to the "start/end" option when trimming. Haven't found the "trim commercial" option yet. LOL

I've still the same problem - my Avermedia Digital TV card is still only available in 32 bit (and nothing for Vista)
Commercials - I cheat (BBC doesn't have commercial breaks in their programs)
