I've browsed updates for previous versions of EMC and noted, that updating to the last version is only possible from retail, real CD versions, as opposed to ESD (downloaded) versions.
Is there any common sense in this approach?
Considering coming update for EMC9, should I try to "get" CD-images now and reinstall from them, as there is good chance the update won't work with my ESD version?
X.
Roxio's way of updates...?

There were some of the ESD versions that did need a 'replacement' installation, but others that were happy with patches.
What will happen with the patch for EMC9 entirely depends on how it works - if it's feasible, it will be a patch, if not then a replacement installation.
Until the guys in the back room have it finalised, we're all just guessing

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

As far as any of us know there is a patch on the way - when that is likely to be, I'm afraid I haven't a clue.
All I can say is that I'm running 9 DeLuxe here and no real problems beyond having to shift a couple of files manually when DirectX updated itself (took all of 5 minutes to do)
