video capture problems

just puchased easy media creator 9 suite and i am having trouble. when capturing images and sound from my camcorder the images are very jerkey (1 minute of video record = about 20seconds of playback) and the audio is missing. i have downloaded the latest drivers from sony.
my camera is a sony DCR-TRV245E. my operating system is Windows Vista
any ideas!!!

It sounds like you are capturing via USB. How are you connecting the camera to your computer? If you are not using the Firewire connection then your capture will not work. EMC requires firewire connection for capturing from DV camcorders.
The other possibility is of course that Vista :) is causing all your problems.

i am using USB. please forgive my ignorance but what is firewire and how do i connect it?

I couldn't find the DCR-TRV245E at Sony's website. What type of camcorder? Digital 8mm? etc...  usually the USB port is for transferring still images or connecting the camcorder to the PC as a 'webcam' (streaming video).  Sony uses iLink which is their name for firewire. See below.

You should be using firewire to get highest quality from your camcorder.

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS.
I'VE FITTED FIRE WIRE TO MY SYSTEM AND IT ALL NOW RUNS A SMOOTH AS A CASHMERE CODPIECE. :)  :huh:  :D
