I have installed a new hard drive and perform a full install of Windows Vista Business Edition. Now when I try to burn anything to a DVD-R (the drive is a Plextor PX-716a) I recieve a POWER CALIBRATION ERROR. I have tried 4 brands of disc. The software is Roxio 9.
Before I had Windows XP Pro SP2 and I had never had any issues buring with the same drive and software.

This error is hard to figure out. In XP, there is a fix that's been on the net for awhile.
1 on desktop click start
2 select control panel
3 click on administrative tools
4 click on services
5 browse your way down to IMAPI CD BURNING COM SERVICE
6 right click (on IMAPI) then select properties
7 in the middle of the window it will say start up type.click on the arrow to the right and select disabled.
8 make sure you click APPLY
I'm not at a Vista system to see if you have the same options in the administrative tools.
Other suggestions are to try to burn at a slower speed, update firmware, different media (which you tried), or that your burner is dying.

Basically before the drive starts to write it performs a test on the media - the calibration error is the drive saying it can't set the laser - this could be either the drive itself going faulty or the blank disc
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Agreed, if you have tried a couple things and none of them work, test with another drive.
