I'd suggest turning off the Norton during the install (it has been knwo to cause programs to hang) and restart it imemdiately after.
As well as that, have you tried copying the contents of the CD to a temp folder and installing it from there? It may sound crazy but sometimes that works - also it lets you know, if you get a 'cyclic redundancy error' that theer may be a problem with the media itself)
The patch file was for after installation if you had the dla driver problem

However, I'd strongly recommend AGAINST using D2D for backup purposes. NO packet writing program is reliable and -RW discs just compound that. It's about as reliable as an igloo in the Sahara really and a sure-fire way to lose stuff. Far better to use Creator to write that important stuff to an ordinary disc really to preserve both data and your sanity. This isn't just D2D - it's also DLA, InCD and so on - any of them
