I have a clean Install of Windows Vista Premium and after trying to install EMC8 i got a message saying it was incompatable with Vista ( hmmm only had EMC8 for 4 months) oh well i got with Support and they kindly gave me a tad more of a discount to purchase EMC9 which was garanteed to be compatable with Vista. Ok i waited 5 days and got my Roxio EMC9 package today ! Oh boy i run upstairs to install , put the cd in the dvd drive and lo and behold after 45 minutes its still sitting on the " install " message then Roxio locks up after that. Seems i only get to the part where i select " English " as the install language and after that nothing happens ?? After coming to the support discussion group rooms here I see i need to wait till a patch comes out eh ? Since i cant even install the product im not sure what to do now lol .. Oh boy ... I wont die if EMC9 isnt fixed and installed this very moment haha cuz im patient but it would be nice to have a product we spend 90 bucks on to work at some point even if " evil " Microsoft causes chaos everytime they do upgrades or fixes at others expenses.  :)  I do commend Roxio for everything they are trying to do to get EMC9 working as it should .

As far as we've seen on these boards people have gotten it to work. The problems we're seeing the most is a popup after install that comes up with a warning about DLA being incompatible. Some of our guru's have this running on Vista just fine.Hopefully one will chime in with some suggestions.

I came across this just now - it was in the Sonic forum but it may work if you want to give it a try

gi7omy   ,   Before i do anything i wanted to know about this " drag to disk " patch link you gave me. How does it relate to me installing EMC9 on my computer ? As i've stated before when i use the EMC9 disk in my dvd drive to install... Vista asks if i want to "run" the exe file for EMC9 which i select yes ... after that i get the splash screen asking what language which i select English , after that nothing happens for a long, long time in this case yesterday i waited over 45 minutes . Had to ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager to shut down the EMC9 install since nothing was happening. Only thing running on my computer is Norton Internet Security 2007 and Lavasoft Ad-aware in the background. I have very few programs installed on this computer of mine and i have used EMC since the 5.0 - 9.0 version now. I am grateful for everyone's help here but i want to do this EMC9 installation carefully without crashing my computer and having to go through the whole re-installing of the OS and stuff.  :)

Sorry about that - moment of mental abberation

I'd suggest turning off the Norton during the install (it has been knwo to cause programs to hang) and restart it imemdiately after.

As well as that, have you tried copying the contents of the CD to a temp folder and installing it from there? It may sound crazy but sometimes that works - also it lets you know, if you get a 'cyclic redundancy error' that theer may be a problem with the media itself)

The patch file was for after installation if you had the dla driver problem

Alright , i'll try those things you stated to see if it makes a difference in getting EMC9 installed on my Vista Premium computer. Also if it does indeed install i'll run the patch for dla so i can use drag to disk since i do use dvd-rw disks for backing up files and stuff . Wish me luck  :)   I'll post if everything goes through good.

Don't forget to keep us posted

However, I'd strongly recommend AGAINST using D2D for backup purposes. NO packet writing program is reliable and -RW discs just compound that. It's about as reliable as an igloo in the Sahara really and a sure-fire way to lose stuff. Far better to use Creator to write that important stuff to an ordinary disc really to preserve both data and your sanity. This isn't just D2D - it's also DLA, InCD and so on - any of them

Well , after trying to copy the cd contents to a folder i found multiple files would not copy due to not being able to read the file from the cd itself .After inspecting the Roxio cd i see scratches and defects on a particular spot on the edge of the cd itself so looks like Roxio sent me damaged goods. Just my luck huh after shelling out 90 bucks EMC8 4 months ago and now having to shell out more moola for EMC9 so it will work with Vista and i find out Roxio sends me a bum install cd... Dunno what else could go wrong.  :)  Guess i got to wait till Monday to call someone at Roxio to get a replacement cd .... sigh... just another bump in the road i guess.

That's what I was afraid might be the case - but contact customer services and tell tham what has happened, presuming you bought it from them.

If you bought it elsewhere, bring it back and demand a replacement on the spot

Well i recieved my Roxio EMC9 package today in the mail, i gotta admit i was ready to post a complaint to BBB for Roxio making me wait almost a month for a replacement cd but after recieving the new disc today i tabled that thought to see if i could install and use the program. Well here are the results ! put cd in drive, installed ECM9 without any error messages , after the install i declined to "reboot" the computer and went straight to Control Panel/Programs and Features ( formerly Add/Remove Programs ) for XP users and Un-installed Drag-to-Disc . After that i rebooted without any problems and tested Roxio by burning/copying 3 game disc's i had without any problems . laugh.gif  Hurray!!!!!!  Now i wanted to say gi7omy that i have never had problems with d2d in any previous versions of Roxio and use it quite a bit to burn/back-up saved games files to a Dvd-RW disc. I do wish to use d2d soon but will wait till the EMC9 patch comes out . Have you heard anything yet regarding D2D and if it is safe to "add" back to the EMC9 program for Vista Premium ?? Thanks everyone for all your replies and help earlier ! I'm happy now that i have a Roxio EMC9 program up and running like it should  biggrin.gif
