Hi,

I have been trying to load a .wav file that comes from the recording option of my mp3 player. When I try to load it into Sound Editor I get an error:

The file "c://anyfile.wav" does not exist or is not a supported audio file.

I can play these files through roxio so they must be recognized and exist!

When I look at the properties of the .wav file I see this:

Transition speed: 32 kbps
Size: 4 bit
Channels: 1 (mono)
sound speed: 8 KHz
Audio format: IMA ADPCM

Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Bruce.

I believe IMA is a lossy format but I've not used it before.  How were you playing these files in Roxio? If in Music Disc Creator, you should be able to export them.   I'm not sure why one part of Roxio would play this file and Sound Editor not work with it.

I think the problem is the 4 bit,8k file format. If I remember correctly the format needs to be at least 8 bit.

Terry's correct.  8bit is needed. You might try Witch, a free audio file converter and see if it works.

I went back and did some looking around and it does seem that Sound Editor is looking for at least an 8 bit file format. You might try doing a search of the forums and searching for 8 bit.I think you'll get an answer to your questions.

Thanks for all the help.  That was very fast.  What I will try to do is change the format that the mp3 recorder uses. If they don't give me any options for that I will just need to use another program to give a new format before editing the file.

Bruce.

If you do the search for 8 bit you'll see some other programs that people have used to do the conversions.
