Hi,

I've successfully formatted media in Disc and Device Utility. I can view the properties of that formatted media in Disc and Device Utility without a problem. Both the disc properties and session properties in Disc and Device Utility are all green check marks or info only, except "Can read barcode" has a red X. (And I hope that is not the issue.) However, when I try to save a jpg to that newly formatted media, I receive "F:\is not accessible" "Incorrect function".

There is a message on the canvas behind the error dialog box that instructs me to "click the Filter for Media Types button" and determine if the media type on that disc was included. The "All Media Files" option was already selected.

I am running Windows 2000 SP4 on a Dell Dimension 4400.
Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz processor, 256 MB of RAM.
The CDRW is a Lite-On 24102M that was installed by Dell with the system was bought. I've removed the device through the Add/Remove Hardware wizard, no help. Drivers are current.

Can someone please tell me what I am missing?

All help is appreciated.

It's the formatting that's getting you.The only time you should format a disc is to use it in Drag to Disc.Try using a disc fresh off the spindle.

To add to what Terry said, formatting an optical disc is only used if you intend using Drag to Disc (which is about as reliable as an igloo in the Sahare when it comes to storage).

Never format a disc - you may be used to formatting floppies but optical media is a different beast and doesn't need to be formatted

Agreed Terry. Just use a new media disc and place it in your optical drive. No need to format it to do what you are wanting to do. Open Creator Classic in the EMC program you are running (what EMC version program are you using ?) and drag and drop your jpg files into the lower screen window. Then burn them to the new media disc in the drive. If you don't close the burn, then you will be able to use the same disc later to add more files (multi-session disc).

Thanks to ALL of you for your quick replies.

I just took a shrink wrapped Imation CD-RW and put it in the drive. I did not format it or modify it in any way. I Clicked on Save As in PhotoSuite and chose the drive holding that media....same message.

I must be fouling this up some other way.

I appreciate your time and help.

RedWagon. Do you mean that I can't go straight to CD from Photosuite? Must I purchase another package to create the CD?

You can't save directly to a CD from photosuite. By itself it is a photo editing app and you can only save files to a hard drive or flash drive such as a memory stick.

Is your Photosuite a stand alone app, or does it come with other modules? For example do you have an option to create a slide show (slideshow assistant)? If so you could use that to burn to CD. Or if it is part of Roxio Easy media creator, you can use creator classic.

If you don't have those options, save the file to your hard drive. You can then use the native Windows (XP) method to copy (burn) it to CD, or if you have something like Roxio drag to disc or Sonic DLA you can use that (though the disks may not be very reliable for long term storage using such packet writing software). Most CD burner drives come with such software, or it is usually installed OEM if the drive came preinstalled on your PC.

PS I see that Photosuite 8 does come with a slideshow assistant

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/photosui...d/overview.html

It is most likely a separate icon in your start/programs list.

So first edit your photos as needed in Photosuite, save to hard drive. Then load them into the slideshow app and you can burn to CD (or DVD if your burner is DVD R capable)

In addition to what Jean... suggested, if you have EMC 7.x; 8 or version 9, you can burn all your jpg photos to a non-formated disc as follows:

Save the jpg or photosuite photos to a folder of your choice on your hard drive and then open EMC and click on the "Creator Classic" program. Click on "Data Disc" on the left side of the screen and then in the "Select Source" box on the right side of the screen, go to the folder where you saved your photos and drag and drop them down to the lower "Projects" box. Then it's just a matter of burning those photos to a new (NOT Formatted) disc in your optical drive.

Right you are Jean.Sorry,I saw the formatting part and got stuck on that right away. The correct thing to do is to save it to your HD (or mem stick) and then burn it to a cd using another app just like you said.

Thanks to you all. I purchased, downloaded, installed and used Roxio Easy Media Creator and finished what I needed to do. I did not want to spend the money for the entire suite and thought I'd get by with photoshop....live and learn. My son is in fourth grade and we have a California Missions project to finish. Your help is allowing us to bring pictures to a place for proper printing.

He is fighting autism and it is taking all our resources to fight the disease. It also is why I am so ignorant of how to do this stuff. My free time is spent researching and fighting the disease, not on home system stuff (although I work as a DBA, we don't burn photo's to CD's too often. :-) )

Thank you all, again for your patience and help. It would have taken many more hours for this old, tired, and slow guy to get this done without all of you. God Bless.
