My husband and I have discovered the fun of editing our own home videos for our kids sports and stuff. We want to do a special video for our son. We just ordered the new Roxio Easy Media Creator - Version 8.0. Here is our question: We have some stuff saved on our TiVo (NFL Films) which we want to burn onto a DVD and rip/copy excerpts from it, to put into our sons football highlight.
In essence, we hope to record a DVD off of our TiVo, simply put the DVD into our computer for editing, and capturing the footage we want. Is it as easy as to just pop a DVD into our computer and capture any scene we want?
So my question is this ... can it be done? How? Also we have not yet purchased a DVD Recorder/Burner ... does anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks,
Kim

Capturing Video From A Tivo And Playing/editing On A Pc?

First, I'll say that editing video isn't as easy as we would like. What you want to do can be done, but it will take you time to learn all the ins & outs of capturing and editing. I don't have a Tivo, but some here have posted success and failures trying to get them into the computer.
When you say DVD recorder/burner, are you referring to one for the computer or a stand alone that could be hooked up to the Tivo? There are many good brand of both.

When I say DVD Recorder/Burner ... I was referring to a stand alone that could be hooked up to the TiVo. However, the main purpose to be just getting from TiVo to a DVD that we can capture and edit, which or what would you suggest. Is their way to hook up a TiVo to a PC? I have read below for the last few hours and have not seen any refernce to that ... at least that I could understand.

Personally, I don't know. There must be some models that can be hooked to a computer. If you read some of the posts here, they mention the Tivo software verison 2.2. Might be an option for you.
I recently purchased the Liteon LVW5005 which I use instead of a Tivo. I have DirecTV and just take the svideo and audio out into the recorder. I can then use Media Import to capture from those discs.

Your Tivo must me networked to your computer. I use wireless, and it works very well. In the desktop software that you download for your computer in conjunction with networking the device, there is an option to upload the programs to your hard drive. I haven't tried it yet, so I'm not sure what options, if any, are available for editing it
